Suggestion: Add auto-pass for 3+ player matches (equivalent to 50% concede for 2 players)

Post by philTS »

Sometimes the game is over for the 3rd or 4th player, with 2 leading players duking it out 40+ points ahead & no chance to catch up. In duels you can just concede at 50%, but in 3+ player matches there is no way to do so. My suggestion: Add an concede-light option for multiplayer that will simply auto-pass all actions, so you don't have to wait forever or loose karma for leaving. Also often happens that a player hits (regular) pass in last round and leaves before the last green tile placement, invalidating the game...

Edit: Just added it as a suggestion, if you want to vote for it https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=190529

Up voted! I've ran into this multiple times when players forget or don't realize they can use their plants for a greenery at the end of the game.

Is the suggestion that players should have an option to click "auto-pass for remainder of game", or is the suggestion to have the game automatically pass a player who runs out of time so that the other players can continue playing without having the game ruined?

Either way, I can see some potential problems.

I think this is cool idea, but it doesn't work in draft games, because you steel need to make decisions on the draft and making random decisions could gave other players big advantage

I really don‘t get what the problem is with checking in once or twice a day and hitting the regular autopass button if you don’t want to participate any longer. Do you leave the table in real life too when the game is not going your way?

Correct.

The suggestion is rejected.

A separate suggestion to pass a player during final greenery conversion (if that player has left and the clock runs out) would probably be acceptable. If someone reposts that as a suggestion, I'll upvote it and recommend it. Reluctantly - because, I don't understand why people can't stay for that one last move - but it should be easy to code, and would avoid some annoying forfeits.

I've created a tournement with a length of 10 days according players a bit more than 3 days and most table have a guy who take way more than the allocated time, thus transforming mars into a speed game as the one with the most time remaining is the winner.

It would be great to be able to force that player to auto pass. Would it be fair ? No. Would it be fairer ? Yes by a huge margin. You can win on the next move and still be eliminated so...

The only solution i found is to quality every one but the last for the next round. Still not being able to finish the game is not fun.

You don't understand it, because you don't know how 3p/4p works. If the players are already out of contention and no longer to continue, they should have an option to auto pass for reminder of the game since they were going to do that anyway. This also gave the rest of players the assurance they can now compete without any interferance. It's a win win solution.

I understand perfectly fine how 3p and 4p work. You're the one not understanding the situation. Playing 3p or 4p is not intended to be a 1v1 situation without interference from the other player(s). If that is wat is desired, then the players should not be playing 3p or 4p.

Yes and this has been said frequently by a lot of people. It is tiring to repeat it!
