[bugz] turn-based games go wild replaying non-existing moves

Post by RicardoRix »

So yesterday. Roll for the galaxy went completely wild on me. It's like I clicked the "replay moves" 5 times or something.
It was however short lived an F5 did the trick.
The url does not change like the expected behaviour when you click the 'replay last moves'.

But this morning was different, GaiaProject also went mad, played loads of random things, all my counters went negative, just wouldn't stop replaying moves from all players. Roll for the Galaxy was the same, the current position even had a used dice from the current action as if I'd taken one of those actions for me. The game log was also missing.
I refreshed F5 both these games multiple times and it was the same crazy stuff. Concordia was ok though at the same time.

Haven't seen anybody else bring this up, also seems to be an intermittent problem...

People post bug reports about this in the Terraforming Mars bug forum a couple times a month. Seems to be an unexplained occurrence not specific to any one game on BGA. I have no idea what causes it.

I've never had it happen to me, so I'm not sure what to recommend when it happens. As you noted. F5 doesn't always work.

I'm thinking closing the browser altogether and re-launching it might help?

It's known, happens even in Studio, seems to happen in multiple games, and started a week or two ago. Or at least, I never saw it before then and now it's easy to reproduce.

BGA staff were informed, and it seems it may be due to a recent change. I don't know the details.

The only workaround I know is to immediately reload the page if it starts happening.

I saw it in 3 different games (the only ones I checked as it was my turn) during yesterday's Cloudflare outage. Once that was resolved, the games returned to normal. But during the outage, and only then for me, it was reproducible.

There was another outage about 1 or 2 weeks ago if memory serves. I didn't notice this behavior before yesterday, but perhaps it also occurred then. I think I was asleep during that entire prior outage so wasn't checking BGA from my dreams, and that wasn't one of the days where my dreams involved me playing some unknown game invented by my dream, but with realistic mechanics and detail and understanding.
