As a Taiwanese player on Board Game Arena for over ten years, I am deeply disappointed to see that my country name has recently been changed from “Taiwan” to “Chinese Taiwan / 中國台灣.” This change is offensive, politically charged, and inappropriate to Taiwanese users.
Board Game Arena is an international gaming platform, and it should remain politically neutral. Unilaterally altering a country designation in this manner introduces political implications into a space meant for games, not geopolitics.
Like many users, I come to BGA simply to play games. However, it is not acceptable for the platform to decide or imply that Taiwan is part of China. For the record, Taiwan has never been part of the People’s Republic of China, nor has it ever been under communist rule.
I sincerely hope that Board Game Arena will not marginalize or disrespect Taiwanese players by accommodating or echoing China’s political narrative.
I respectfully but firmly request that this change be undone and that “Taiwan” be restored as the country name.
