3rd place same as another player but I was chosen as eliminated. How?

Hi,
Yesterday I was in step 14 of Lucky Winner Catan tournament, and it was finished as I was 3rd as result as well as other player, Gust69. We were on the same points (4 each). I have had 5 days thinking time and other player has had under 2 days thinking time. Yet, I was eliminated from the game. I am wondering why is that? Was it just random coin-toss between us? Or is it do with our XP, I see that Gust69's XP far better than me?

Please explain, thank you.

Welcome to the forums. When you post a question about a specific tournament or table, please post the URL so that other posters can see exactly what you're referring to. The answer to your question depends on which mode of tournament you were in. Was it a tournament of type Multiplayer Elimination?

If it's an exact tie, then account age is the tiebreaker. Catan doesn't have tiebreakers other than score. Catan is a game where ranking 2nd-4th on score doesn't make sense.

That's not always true. For example, in single-elimination tournaments which player advances to the next round after a tied game appears to be decided by coinflip; see viewtopic.php?t=44873 Catan is a multiplayer game, so the tournament OP posted about must be of type Swiss or Multiplayer Elimination (or Groups). In Swiss, a tied game just results in the "Swiss points" being divided in two and split equally. If two players are tied on Swiss points, then their ranking in the standings has some documented tiebreakers, beginning with "opponents' points". In multiplayer-elimination tournaments, if a game has a tie which affects who advances, then age of account is the deciding factor.
