Do green thumbs actually have any effect on any algorithms or are they just for yourself to keep note?

They used to be there to keep you from just arbitrarily doling out red thumbs. You had to maintain a certain ratio of green thumbs given to red thumbs given.

It may have also factored in when you got a warning about a high proportion of red thumbs you've been given. I'm not sure if it's still used for that.

I green thumb everyone I know IRL. I also use it for vague informational purposes. It tells me they've done something I like in the past, so they get more leniency if they go over time or something like that.
