changing weather - what is it exactly ?

Post by rank xerox »

hi there,
cher is something I don't quite get about the "weather choice" on BGQ'a Formula D adaptation.
There are 4 different options.
Sun & rain are quite easy to get
then there is random dice roll choice, which I believe corresponds to the original advanced rules: if the die get sun it will be permanent sun, same for rain, and if the die gets "variable" then it starts with sun and die will be re-rolled on a 20 in 5th and 6th gear, it this will repeat until it gives either twice in a row: sun or rain, which then will determine the weather for the remainder of the race.
Is this correct ?

BUT THEN, what about fourth option: "start with changing weather" ?
I thought it was a brand new option in which the weather is PERMANENTLY re-rolled during the entire race, so it is never final and it can be rain or sun until the very end of the rice, no matter how many die rolls there will have been.

However in my last game, after having chosen this "changing weather option", it started with sun and after three dice rolls - all 3 being sun then sun the sun, the game said that it would now be permanent sun until the end of the race.
I don't get this at all.
What is this "changing weather" option and why has it required 3 successive dice rolls before setting up the sunny weather (if it was the orignal formula D rules two dice rolls would have been enough).

Thanks for your enlightenments.

Much more so than most games, there are a lot of (mostly) small changes in the BGA rules from the published rules. These are all outlined at the bottom of the wiki page, which is accessible from the game’s page and look for the “Rules Summary” box.

In the case of weather, there are 5 steps in BGA: Good, Good (temporary), Changeable, Rain (temporary), and Rain. It starts on Changeable, which is overcast but no rain unless it was raining during the qualifying lap. Once it moves off of Changeable, it cannot move back; it’s like there are now only the four steps. And, as with the original rules, if it hits the non-temporary Good or Rain steps, it stays there for good.

I don’t know why it would take 3 good weather rolls in a row to get to permanent sun. That doesn’t sound right to me. Perhaps if you indicated which table this happened at…?

Here's what the BGA rules variation say:
"Start Changeable
This option skips the opening Weather roll and treats it as if "Changeable" had been rolled. However the Weather die is rolled to see if the weather starts in Rain. On a Rain result it does, on "Good" or "Changeable" the weather starts good, but either way it is changeable."
