Ideas to get players to your game

Post by danevito »

I'd like to drop some suggestions to get more players to real-time games.

1. Share statistics
BGA have data on which games are played, by whom, and when during the day. Let us see when a game is most likely to have players online. For example: Log in at this hour of the day to have the best chance of playing this game in real time.

2. DM / SMS function.
Check the SMS or other DM check box on your profile for your favorite games. When someone starts a table of a favorite game in your list. At first nothing gets sent out. Let the players that are online on the site have some time to join in the game. But after 3 - 5 minutes, DMs are sent out to inactive players who were active the last 30 minutes on the webpage. After 6 - 7 minutes of waiting for players, you can choose to activate a broader search (if you are a premium user) by sending SMS to players who have that game in their favorites and have chosen to receive SMS during certain hours of the day and or weekends. If there are 100s of players on that list, it won't SMS everyone at once; it will do so by sending to 10 - 20 random users per 1 - 2 minutes until the game is full. This function could be further limited by not letting you use this action for more than 3 -5 times per week or 15 - 20 times per month.

3. Learn a new game and get rewarded.
This is a wild idea. How about let users earn points and get rewarded with 1 -2 weeks of premium benefits. This will give them a chance to try premium and maybe go on a plan after they no longer have the benefits as a normal user again?
The way to earn points could be, whenever someone is looking for new players, an invite is sent out in the "open chat" for someone to try a game they never played on BGA before. The room creator will initiate this invite as a last resort if no one is joining after a long period. A quick tutorial will be shown to everyone before the game starts and the room creator will have to take a teaching role in the game. If BGA could also implement a voice-over-mic in their rooms, it would be even more interactive. Or if everyone uses discord an invite to a discord room will be sent out to everyone in the game to join at their own accord. If a player finishes a game for the first time, they earn some points that they can trade in for premium weeks. To be clear, the bonus is only given if someone cklicks on the link in the chat when someone is searching for new players.

Isn't there already something where you get points when you've played a new game can eventually get a free month of premium? Of course it isn't going to be 1-2 weeks of Premium for learning one new game (is that what you're suggesting?).

Also, my concern would be that people would just join the game for the benefits, never really learn it, barely pay attention while playing.

Yes, you get 5 gift points for your first win in a game, and need 100 gift points for a month of Premium.

I love your first two suggestions.

I wonder if a simpler approach might just be to let tables to have a scheduled start time. Give the option during table creation to start the game at a specified time, instead of when the host hits a button.

So I could make a "real-time" table for a sparsely played game set to begin this Saturday at 3:00pm (4 days from now), when I know I'll have free time, and you could join that table any time up until then, knowing you'll have an opponent (me) available then for a real-time game.

My understanding is that this functionality already basically exists with real-time tournaments. Why not let any table have a scheduled start time?

I like it. Create a suggestion for it, post the link, and I'll vote for it.

When you created table from LOBBY page, there was an option to INVITE people to it. You had list of players online with this game in favourite, and you could send them "suggestion to join table". It wasn't like reserving spot for someone (buddy), just simple suggestion.
But not so long ago that feature was taken away. Maybe a vote to bring it back is option?
