The pop-up about the rules says: You can spend any set of 3 cards to replace a locomotive on ferries

It seems that this has been implemented as "You can spend any set of 5 cards to replace a locomotive on ferries"

I have not encountered this problem.

It is TTR Nordic, it should be written in TTR Maps forum part, not in TTR (=USA the default).

You should write a bug/report for TTR Maps describing the move# of your problem, the route that you want to build and how you want to built it (clicking on the route first or on the color in your hand first) !

Are you sure 5 cards wasn't the total for the entire route? Like a 3-length one (1 loco + 2 regular cards)
It worked fine for me when I played, maybe if it happens again take screenshots and file a report
