Hi! Hebrew (RTL) translation + question about best way to help improve RTL support

Post by B4r4k »

Hi everyone 👋

I’m Barak from Israel - long-time board game nerd and big BGA fan.
Over the last weeks I built a small userscript for myself that auto-translates BGA pages/games into Hebrew so more Israelis can enjoy the site.

Quick note: it’s not “just Google Translate” - it uses an AI translation engine and tries to translate in context (so it handles boardgame terms and UI text way better than a basic machine translation).

Now I’m planning to translate more games and generally help make BGA more accessible for Hebrew speakers (and other RTL languages too), but I’ve hit a bigger issue:

RTL support isn’t 100% across the site, so even with a good translation, parts of the UI still feel “off” (alignment, layout, icons, some headers/menus flipping weirdly, etc.).

So I wanted to ask the community/devs what the best way is to contribute here:

1) Should I open a separate bug report for each RTL issue (small + specific),
or is it better to collect everything into one big RTL tracking thread/bug?

2) Is there already an RTL-related project/initiative or a place where RTL issues are being tracked?

3) Is there someone (dev / maintainer / community member) I can coordinate with, so I can report things in the most useful way and avoid noise/spam?

Happy to provide screenshots, steps to reproduce, and a clean list of issues (and I can test fixes too). I’m here for the long run - would love to help improve the experience for all RTL users.

Thanks a lot! 🙏
- Barak

I am not a RTL user, but I appreciate your dedication. 👏

As for programming for BGA, there are some guidelines https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/BGA_Studio_Guidelines and https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Translations. But I haven't checked if they include anything about RTL. I am not a programmer, so I am afraid I can't help you much further at that point. My impression is that the BGA developers mostly work on their own, and that there isn't anyone coordinating things like this. But why are you not asking this in the developer forum to get first hand information?

You probably have to open separate bug reports for each game and the general website.
Over the years, I've collected some RTL reports:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=97066
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=71525
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=166022
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=204410
As you can see, most remain unanswered :(
Maybe you could enter the BGA Studio yourself and do the job?
