Let players turn off scoring if they want

Post by mbohlin01 »

For the love of Pete, let US determine whether we want to see the score real time or not. It makes everything about the number rather than the game experience with my friends in a friendly game. Not everyone is fighting a war to be the best player in rankings. Many of us don’t care at all about it. Makes us want to play on other formats than here. Why unnecessarily irritate your customers?

Why unnecessarily upset the developers? If you ask in a friendly or neutral way, at the right place and naming the game you are talking about, I guess your chances are much higher to get what you want.

That said, this forum is meant to discuss with the community, not the developers. If you want to reach the developer, you better fill in a suggestion report here: https://boardgamearena.com/bugs. And make sure it's made for the game you want to address, not the BGA website.

Or you can put a sticker on the scores if you don't want to see them.

Custom CSS would accomplish this easily. BGA makes that very easy to do.

This is a situation where you could easily help yourself to accomplish what you want to do.

Some games have the option to disable live scoring.

Some games do not. Perhaps the designer of those games prefers the score to be displayed.

My guess is it's related to how the game is played IRL. If it scores during the game IRL, then it has live scoring on BGA. If it's only end of game scoring IRL, then it might allow live scoring in BGA as an option.

Perhaps, although I don' think this is consistently applied.

From a user interface standpoint, I think it makes sense to display the score (unless the rules of the game explicitly say not to). Or, at least, the visible parts of the score. Some games have hidden scoring components.

I appreciate the chutzpah in making your first ever forum post sound like you’ve been agitating for this option for years.

I guess some customers come pre-irritated.

It's just a number. It doesn't have any intrinsic effect. Its impact derives from how you react to its presence. If you truly "don't care at all about it," it shouldn't affect you at all. In other words, if you can't simply ignore it and still enjoy the "game experience with my friends in a friendly game," frankly it sounds like a you problem.

I mean, if you don’t care about the score, why does it matter if it shows up?

I’m personally of the idea that creator intent should decide those things, but if you are going to argue that it should be up to the player, it seems to me that more convincing arguments exist.
