Add Undo Button?

Post by leafyscreen »

It would be nice to have an undo button. If you misclick or misplace a card, it would be nice to be able to undo do the mistake.

This was already discussed here: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32313
The right place for suggestions is here: https://boardgamearena.com/bugs
The suggestion was rejected by the developer: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=97567

Playing on the web, and I just accidentally picked the wrong card from the clearing. This lack of a confirm/undo feature is extremely frustrating. It really makes me want to quit the game but then I'll get penalized. This is utterly ridiculous.

I just came back here because of this occurrence, and I see that https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=97567 is marked "rejected by the developers". What?!?!?! How could they possibly think that is acceptable? Anyone know the explanation?

I fully agree with adding an undo. The number of times I have inadvertently clicked "pass" when I was trying to play cards on a mole or a deer or whatever... enraging. It should be similar to Wingspan - any move that doesn't end your turn, or reveal hidden info, should be able to be undone.

Some developer named @firgon said "We won't change our mind about undo on this game" without giving any explanation or reason whatsoever. They ignored all the good reasons people gave both on the suggestion, and on past threads here.

Just make sure to rate this game implementation with the lowest number of stars any time BGA asks you to.

Not using the undo feature is part of the vision of the developer for the game. We understand you feel some frustration and that the outcome is not what you wish for. It saddens us to see a call for downvotes over a single design choice we respect your right to share your opinion.

That being said we hope that once you move past that point, you'll be able to continue enjoying the game.

Please elaborate on "the vision of the developer for the game".

I come to board game arena to enjoy a board game experience which involves learning and understanding the mechanics of a board game, not to be locked into a poor decision because of a mis-click.

This is an mechanics vs implementation problem and just seems like laziness on the behalf of the BGA adaptation developer.

One presumes they're looking for a quick and light experience where players react to the cards they pick up/draw rather than angonise over every decision and track the rate of various colour and animal type combinations that may/may not be left in the deck.

Undos make the game go slower, not just because people can undo decisions, but because people that don't want to undo now have to click/wait out a comfirm timer. While it's not a big deal for a turn-based game, I'd assume the undo botton probably adds a minmum of an extra quarter of the time in a real-time game.
