More friendly approach?

Post by Bjorkio »

Hi there, internet problems can happen at anybody, but it is a real shame that opponents too often take advantage of that, and just toss the other out.

That's triple punishment: party game interrupted, undiserved karma loss & ELO loss... while the one deciding to expulse gets ALL the rewards out of impatience / rudeness.

I know, some people could fake internet problems in certain circumstances, but I suppose that would be on the margen.

ANYWAY: as there is the option to just CANCEL the game (which get automatically accepted by the out of clock opponent), or even change it to turn by turn...

... How about promoting such behavior, granting something inside the platform (karma-reputatation, some of those trophees or whatever) so that players tend more to choose this instead of this not that often undeserved triple punishment.

No. If anything players don't kick as much as they should, and the karma penalty is laughably low. Players play their games, and if they timeout when everyone is fine with it, not much happens, just some time notes. Some players play each other without concern over time. But if I kick you, that lets me tell BGA "hey, this was a problem". And BGA will go "yeah, but it's their first time". If someone else kicks you later BGA goes, "eh, just their second". An occasional karma smack, whatever, it'll come back quickly. If a ton of people are kicking you then it adds up more.

Choosing not to kick players is just hiding the problem players from everyone else. They can't see all the times a player isn't getting kicked. Worse, this directly incentivizes players to fake these sorts of things and hope BGA's rewards encourage their opponents to let them get away with it. I don't need a reward to choose not to kick someone, that's what judgment is for. To look at the situation and determine the best course of action. Games where I'd need to be bribed to change my mind are the sort of games I should be kicking those players.

Yes. And losing games and "karma" on a virtual site can happen to anybody. No big deal.

If it starts to happen so often that it bothers you... well, maybe your internet is not that reliable and you shouldn't be joining real-time games. Also keep in mind that if being expelled bothers you, your being overtime bothered your opponents earlier. Even if it's not "your fault", they don't need to bear with it, it's not their fault either.
