Unable to move across rivers with character or mech

Not sure if I'm just playing wrong, but I thought I could move across this river with my mechs or character, but it does not work. I have tried multiple times. Screenshot is attached.

That movement is not allowed. Nordic has Riverwalk that allows them to move across rivers TO mountains and forests, not FROM mountains and forests.

Thanks for asking for a clarification instead of immediately saying the game is broken and filling out a bug report. I wish we could give rewards for people taking this approach.

Indeed the movement on this game could be the trickiest thing about it. I often lose to people I show the game to IRL because... they move randomly everywhere and I either don't notice or figure we probably aren't playing again so I might as well handicap myself by letting them move freely. Of course I lose sometimes. Oh well, randomly venting? Thanks for posting OP, I am sure some will learn from this post.

The movement was also my biggest problem with this game. Especially later in the game it's almost impossible to calcullate where everybody can more.
At least in the digital steam version you could check by clicking on pieces.
On here I dont even understand how my own units can get somewhere sometimes.

Combining: tunnels + riverwalk + extra movement from the player mat movement upgrade + Each faction usually has a second mech movement ability,

can result in seemingly warping around the map.
