Scoring Suggestion Improvements

Post by Thuongtied »

Hello,

I feel like scoring should be more visually appealing. The game literally ends with a final score and tells you who won with how many points between all the players but that's not very satisfying.

When we play the real board game version we each go through our board and tally up the scores and that is like half the fun! We can all see how we got our points.

The way Ticket to Ride does it on BGA is pretty nice. It would be a good feature to have for Harmonies too because it's a pretty fun game.

I don't understand what you think is missing. The display already shows you all the scores exactly like how it is in the board game.

What I don't like is the recent change they made to the game with spirits, where they display your spirit points on top of the spirit card itself, which is very unnecessary and ruins the art and your visual comfort when you look at the final game situation. This very much falls under the "random change that no one asked for" category, especially since this is not faithful to the real board game.

Along the same lines, why does the replay show you the highlighted zones of the last animals you placed when you go to the end? This also kinda ruins the appearance of your board when you want to look at a replay and admire it. The final situation should be uncluttered, leaving the highlights seems like an oversight from the developers.

(tip for this issue: if the last animal you place corresponds to the completion of a card, then the final situation will be free of highlights in the replay)

I really like the the idea and I also really like how it's done in Ticket to Ride. Some kind of animation of the scoring could provide an extra bit of satisfaction. For those who don't know, you can check out here how it's done in Ticket to Ride: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrwMW_mm-PE&t=1480s (at 24:40) I mean, in best case, you can optionally skip that part. But I wouldn't mind a 5 to 10 seconds animated rush through the scoring.

Anyway, I also agree with tbhp that at the very end then, the boards should be clean and not have arbitrary highlights.

I've always thought the same way, but my go-to game was Wingspan.

For sure! The points visualized from the spirit card now appearing at least can let us quickly glance over how many points we got from it but yeah some pop and pom would be cool as it tallies things from like field points, longest river, etc
