Rules question - less cards in hand

I'm new to this game, I have a question about the hand size. When playing one round, both players have a hand size of 8. But When we played a 3-round game, on the third round the current leader had a hand size of 5 while the other player had the normal hand size of 8. Is that the rule?

You can add screenshots to the replies and upvote the bug to try to get the developers attention.

With all bugs in this version (cards sorted out of order, cards not appearing underneath cards that have been taken off the center board, or not enough cards in your hand), they can all be fixed by refreshing, so you don't actually have to only play with 8-x amount of cards.
