An unoccupied farmyard space surrounded by a pasture??

Post by hunwee »

Suppose I play Wood Palisades

"Instead of a fence piece, you can place 2 wood on fence spaces at the edge of your farmyard. These fence spaces with 2 wood are worth 1 bonus point."

which allows me to build more than 15 effective fences. Then I construct a 3x3 pasture with a 1x1 pasture in the middle (this requires 16 fences total). The result will look like a donut.

According to the rules, would this center spot (the donut hole) be an enclosed pasture or an unoccupied farmyard space? Could it be my choice?

And if I try to do this on BGA, what will happen?

You can't choose, it will be a pasture, BGA will follow the rules so that's what will happen.

You will have an 8 capacity pasture and a 2 capacity pasture. and at least 1 bonus point.

It will return an error when you try to submit it, all fence pieces must be connected.

I just tested this and I am wrong! EuroGamez is exactly right. You will have a 16-capacity pasture around a 2-capacity pasture.

I read the rules to check if this should be allowed, and I believe it is actually correct. I thought the rules said all fence pieces must be connected, but it doesn't - it says all pastures must be adjacent. And that is true in this case.

So feel free to make a Wood Palisades-inspired doughnut!

I'll be the party pooper and point out that instead of a doughnut you could have a 3x3 with three pastures for the same costs. :D

True. But then you wouldn't have somewhere to sow with Love for Agriculture!

You even would have two possible fields. Your 3x3 pasture would have two corner pastures instead of just the middle hole.

Good point, I was imagining three pastures, each comprising three spaces in a vertical line. But your way is better for Love for Agriculture.

Not sure if there is an actual gameplay reason to choose the pasture doughnut!

Ridiculous. I would dedicate an entire game towards creating the pasture doughnut!

"Fellow Grazer" says hello ;)

During scoring, you get 2 bonus points for each pasture you have covering at least 3 farmyard spaces.
