Too good 100 elo players

Hi,

Does anybody know what the hell is going on with those players that have 2000+ games played and 100 somthing elo with 20% win rate and play almost perfect? I am sick and tired of them. I have 600 elo, im not a noob and somehow they kick my behind. A friend of mine had the same experience and it's not an isolated incident.

And another thing. Why does the option to play with players of a minimum experience exist if you still get paired with 100 ELO players?

I just skimmed your profile and pulled up a game you lost vs a 100 and saw them taking 1 tile and sticking it in row 2 on round 1 with multiple viable possibilities to have filled row 2 down the line. Are you sure these 100s are really playing that well?

The 100 pairing is because Arena pairing is weaker than regular rating pairing. Elite league is a joke, even a 100 can reach it, so filtering by league is much weaker than the rating filters available in regular play. Not sure what you mean by minimum experience filters though. The actual experience number on BGA doesn't say much.

I would hardly call that "Almost perfect" play by your opponent. Failing to complete row 2 was questionable at best. This was bailed out by your selections that caused a lot of penalty tiles early, but also, you made moves that left your opponent's good moves very obvious. Low-rated players in any game will make the "obvious" move even if it's not a good move. If you put your opponents in a position in which the "obvious" move also happens to be a strong move, don't be surprised when they make that move. You basically handed your opponent parallel columns. That final piece was 14 points.

100 elo players with 2000 games are not the ones you should be concerned about, it’s 100 elo players with 10 games that are more likely to be smurf accounts.

We all lose to low rated players sometimes, just the nature of the game. Sometimes the tiles come out such that they can follow a very simple game plan and win

No. That's the point the OP was making. 100 Elo players (Especially at a game like Azul where the Elo ceiling is a 4-figure number) generally are not good, and can be counted on to make losing moves in winning situations.

But game to game, odd things can happen. I've seen baffling and disastrous plays from 500 Elo players; and I've lost games to players in the 200s in which I found myself saying, "When is my opponent going to start making mistakes?"

And in some games, I am the one making the baffling errors as a 450-500 Elo player where my 200s Elo opponent i thinking, "wow, I can't believe Frank just did that."

I don't put a whole lot of stock in ELO. It's more a marker of experience than skill and for the Arena a way to keep out the players who are just learning the game. I would just assume that either...

• The 100 player who beat me has played it a lot in person or somewhere outside of BGA
  They got lucky
  I'm not as good as I think I am.

Elo is an indicator of skill. Experience won't gain Elo unless that experience translates into increased skill.
