Event Horizon is a pretty flexible card, but I have a rules question about it. Maybe I missed something.

This is a BO3 game. In the first match, I played Event Horizon and the opponent chose Everything Ends. I selected Heal 2 and Ready an Exhausted Ability. By my understanding, since I did not deal damage, Everything Ends shouldn't deal 1 damage back, but in this case I took 1 from Everything Ends.
Is this a bug in the gameplay or did I miss something in the rules?
