Why don't "Random Map" Settings ever identify resulting choice?

Post by CrovendianKing »

I've noticed in several games where there are multiple maps to play on, you can set up the game to choose a random map, or map of the month, etc. However, once this option is chosen and the game begun, it would be really convenient to be able to look at the game options and see the title of the map that was picked.

In Toy Battle, for instance, it's nearly impossible to find out the title of the map I'm playing on if I don't already know it. The settings only say "Random Map" or "Map of the Month". I've noticed it in Terraforming Mars as well, and I think a couple other games.

Anyone else think it would be nice to reflect the actual map name in the game settings?

Those settings are decided at the server level and passed into the game. The game itself has no access to change the settings, so it can't update which map was selected. The game has a limited set of API calls it can use to interface with the server directly, including setting the score, statistics, and indicating which players are active. Individual game settings are readonly for the game.
