If someone quits (instead of conceding), you have already won the game, but BGA gives the remaining player the option to continue making moves while the quitter's turn is skipped. Usually there's no point in continuing, but some people want to and BGA gives you the option to continue. But once someone has actually quit (the interface says they have left the game, not just that their time is negative) you can always just leave after that point.

But be careful. If someone merely stops playing without actually quitting, even if their time goes negative if you leave without first expelling them you will be deemed to have quit the game, not them.

In contrast, conceding the game ends the game immediately even for the remaining player.

You played this game: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=869350852 [By the way, in the future if you're referencing a specific game provide a link so people don't have to hunt for it.]

This was the result:
Game result cancelled (Someone left this game before the end) :
The player who left (or was skipped) lost the game and got a ☯ penalty.
The other players won this game and get 10% of normal ELO points (because 10% of this game was played before the incident).
You didn't get +0. You got +0.52 but BGA only shows whole numbers in the summary and apparently uses the floor() function. [You can see the pop up in my screenshot by putting your mouse pointer over your Elo score on that results page.] A player quitting the game and a player getting expelled ARE the same. You get a fraction of the Elo you would have gotten based on the completion percentage of the game, in this case 10%.

Quitting and conceding ARE NOT the same and I never said they are. If they had conceded (which they could not do at only 10%), you would have gotten full points, or about +5 Elo.

Conceding is not allowed in the first 50% of the game. This is an anti-cheat measure because a common way of ELO cheating has been to let a friend or a 2nd account lose hundreds of games against you. If you can let your partner concede at the first move and you receive full ELO points then cheating would be even easier as it is now.

In your case the game was only 10% complete. BGA cannot decide what the reason of the quitting was. Thus they punish the leaving player (Karma hit and -10 ELO) but they do not reward you - for the reasons mentioned above.

Note: There are many games where the game progression counter is programmed very badly or it is not set at all. In these games the system works even worse as it should. But there will never exist a "just" ruling if a game is not ending in the regular way.

This was my motivation for getting a BGA Studios account to modify "Donuts" because it never progresses beyond 0% (even though there is a very easy way to measure the progress based on how many of a fixed number of starting rings have been laid) and in any abstract two-player game one should be able to resign/concede at some point.
