Hanabi has easy rules but if you want to play it at a high level, you should definitely take your time and go step by step. So here is my advice, based on much observation here on BGA and my long experience playing this awesome game (700+ games in 4 years).
Until you fully master all the logical basics of the game (which may take 100-200 plays*):
1) Do not accept playing with/being taught about finesse and bluff. Do not even care to ask what these techniques are. You can achieve very good results without them.
2) Do not play rainbow (very difficult) mode.
Learning finesse/bluff too soon is like using a tank on your first day in the army – insane and dangerous. Start with a wooden stick.
Many players on BGA won't allow you on their table if you do not know finesse and bluff. Then, just go find other players.
