Quantum stubborn card

I think the stubborn card in Quantum is way out of balance.
Once this card is acquired there is really no point in attacking the player owning it and from there on it is really difficult to win. Since this card can be acquired on the first turn it can be very frustrating to lose a game solely due to that. And once it is available the game can become a race to obtain this one and only card.

I would suggest nerfing it by either:
-you can win a (defensive) fight with a draw but it doesn't destroy the attacking dice
-you can still destroy the attacking dice but the attacker still has the win in case of a draw
Essentially granting one of the two powers and not both.
I know some people already ply it this way with the real life game.

What do you think about it ?

Hi I agree this card is an insta win if you get it early on on a small map even if 3 opponents work together to slow you down.
I can't change the way it works because the editor emailed me how this card works precisely and players would complain about the change, but I asked him if I can kinda remove it from small maps.
To be continued...

Ah, that explains a lot. My first ever combat was against an enemy with the stubborn card - it was a tie so my ship blew up - the way the card is worded I'd assumed that stubborn just meant "win ties when defending" and that the ship destruction always happened to the losing side. I was really confused next turn when another enemy attacked me twice, losing both times, but his ships stayed on the map...

Quantum isn't very balanced imo. The cards are extremely powerful. Like a lot of unique power games the balance comes from all the players banging on the nail, it is the players all working together to stop the leader that creates balance. This is the biggest missing part form the online game, the player cooperation aspect of the game. So the powers are magnified as often people play soly for themselves and it can lead to runaway wins.

One of the great problems with the power cards is that there are no ways to counter them (besides the destroy white cards powers) So regardless of if it is "true" or not it can leave players feeling like they are powerless. They feel that there is nothing they can do, and this is a terrible feeling in a board game leading to all sorts of gripes about balance , even iof they are not explicitly warranted, it is how it "feels".

We often play with out powers, and just use the black event cards. It creates a much more tactical game of maneuvering with out all the insane power cards. Give it a try, imo it really changes the game.. not so much "for the better", but it is just a very solid variant to play.

Hi
I agree "Stubborn" is very powerful, but I think every card has its counter-power.
For Stubborn, you can react with a "peace" card like "Curious", "Conformist", etc…
Because Stubborn is, after all, just a reaction card, which tend to be useless if you don't attack.
Quantum is for me a game of adaptability

But I think it worse give a try to a game without white cards !
Is that possible to propose the option on BGA ?

BGA licensing agreements tend to be pretty strict about not changing the game and introducing "house rules."

while I enjoy this variant, I also enjoy the original game.. and I think it would be a mistake for BGA to start doing house rules.. that seams like a really slippery slope!
