Reserving tiles on the edge?

Reserving tiles on the edge?

The tutorial says you can’t reserve on the edge and then proceeds to have you reserve on the (newly made) edge on the tile that was next to the tile you just took. Can this rule get clarified or is the tutorial wrong?
