How to reset ELO penalty?

I happened in arena that I played many times against the same player and won all the games against them. 6 of my last 13 games were against them. The other 7 were gainst other players. Now, I get an ELO penalty of 100%. What can I do to reset the penalty? Losing against them is not an option.

Losing is the quickest way to reset it, but it seems to reset if you don't play any games with that player for long enough. The exact amount of time may vary between games, though. I think one month works, but it seems that some people posted examples with shorter times. You may well want to temporarily red thumb that player until it resets.

Yeah, I go with the temporary red thumb if I keep getting matched with the same player.

Just be aware that if that person is on your friends list, that action will unfriend the person.
