"Orphaned" games?

Post by modronmarch2 »

I found what I'm pretty sure is a bug in the BGA implementation of "The Castles of Burgundy". Went to file a bug report, and discovered that the game's developer was last seen two years ago. With that, I decided not to waste time compiling a report that no one will read.

Is there a procedure for "adopting" games whose developer is unable or unwilling to do any further work on the game? Or is this not something that is generally done?

Well the first thing you can do is become a developer yourself and adopt the game. It happens.

If you dont want to become a developer i can say from experience: by making consistent bug reports, there might be a developer who is willing to take up the task to fix a problem within an 'orphaned game', but no guarantees.

If you want to make sure it is an actual bug it might be worthwhile posting it in the games forum first and see what other (expert) players think.

Or even better, search for a similar bug report and vote for it. It's highly unlikely no one else has found this bug in the past 2 years. And few reports with a high number of votes are the most likely to attract a developer to overtake.
