Abandon of the game without my approbation

Post by alex3244 »

In my last game i had one turn left to win and they put "abandon of all players" at this moment whereas i never said yes to an abandon. How is that possible?

An unfortunate quirk of the system is that abandon doesn't require the approbation of the players whose clock is in the negative.

You went out of time during this game and, maybe because they couldn't kick you out because it was their turn, your opponent opted to abandon the game in order to at least avoid a defeat.

It seems like you met someone who is well versed in nefarious tactics. It is quite baffling how the systems in place were invented for mostly valid reasons, yet some people will find convoluted ways to exploit them in the worst possible manner.

They didn't say yes to the amount of time you used either. So it seems you both didn't get what you wanted.

It wasn't nice of them. So fully understandable, should you decide to not play with them again.

The game lasted 16 minutes, which is around the sort of time you would expect when starting that kind of game.

Clearly what bothered their opponent was not the time OP used, but rather the fact they were losing.

I assume they wouldn't have done that if they were winning. But I can very well imagine they wanted the game to be even faster than it was and that playing a role in their decision to not letting their opponent have the win.

It's likely that they would have wanted the game to be quicker, but that is rendered irrelevant by the fact that the real reason they ended the game was to avoid a loss.

People can complain about time wasting all they want... as long as they don't use that as an excuse to avoid a loss. That's the key part.

If they truly just cared about the time wasted, they very well could have conceded the game, which would have ended it on the spot. But they didn't.

It was the only time of the game that i was late by just 3 seconds whereas he was late multiple times so that is more frustrating

Which means that if he had let you play your final turn, your time would have gone up and you very probably would have had enough time to complete your winning move before he could kick you out. That's why he felt his only realistic option to avoid a loss was to abandon the game.

Or it was already your final turn and he decided to abandon because he knew you'd complete your move in less than 20 seconds.

Seems you're already playing it again.

Maybe real-time fast-speed is not the best option. Nobody can force an abandoned game if your clock stays above 0:00.

Your clock shows 11 forfeits and 69 clock violations. Opponents are not likely to be lenient when they see you are habitually joining fast real-time games and not staying within the appropriated clock settings.
