Questions regarding tournament

Post by Vikraal »

I have a few questions regarding tournaments.

Q1. Do we get anything for winning a tourney other than prestige points? BGA gift points maybe?

Q2. Also, does it cost anything to create a tourney?

Q3. Lastly, why do I normally see tourneys at really odd hours of the day (I live in India)? Should an international game site such as this have tourneys starting at all times of the day?

1. No, besides the satisfaction of winning it which is most important.
2. You need to be a BGA member to create tournaments, but creation is free.
3. See answer 2. The users control when tournaments are created, so if there is need and desire for them at a specific time that's when they will occur.

Would be nice if tournaments can get gift points too, just a few but get some...

Excepting around 15 games, the other games hasn't lot of people for play in a tour

Longer games are tough for tournaments, not many people have the time to sit through 4+ rounds of games that'll take close to an hour each.

For turn based mode the current tournament options can really drag a tournament out. A way to play games concurrently seems essential. A combination of Swiss style and single elimination could do this where depending on number of participants all players are broken into 1, 2 or 4 groups. Then each group plays a round robin (all games start at tournament start time). Finally for tournaments with 2 or 4 groups you have a finals (and semi-finals for 4) from the winner of each group.

The other current obvious limitation is tournaments are limited to 2 players. Most of the games on here are best with 3 or 4, so adding that capability could also boost things. I could certainly work out algorithms for things but am limited to Matlab for my coding language :-P

Excepting +30 min games, all games could be good for at least 3 games.

Seasons has an average of 23 min, but other games around 15 min doesn't get more than 5 players.
