Necklace in alpha

Necklace is an orthogonal connection game that's based on a really magnificent mechanism. Board starts empty. The two players, Black and White, add one stone per turn. Crosscuts are not allowed. X O O X Orthogonally interconnected regions of empty points must always include an edge point. Boom. That...

Orthogonal Connection Games

In an orthogonal connection game, Black is trying to form an orthogonally (horizontally and/or vertically) interconnected path of black stones connecting the top edge of the board to the bottom edge. White is trying to connect the left and right edges. DESIGN CHALLENGES 1. Deadlocks. A deadlock occu...

Re: Next game button failing to worky

It isn't fixed. It's still not functioning. AND the BGA cloud button is not working. Have to completely close the BGA window, and start it up again. can you be more specific? what game? what table? what behavior exactly is not working as intended? please create a bug report (https://boardgamearena....

Re: The Best of Both Worlds: What BGA does better?

What BGA does better for me is provide opponents and plenty of them. I don't have anyone to play with in real life. Going a little off topic here, but BGA has had a huge impact on my life. I've been designing abstract games since 1992. I only found out about BGA a few years ago, and I was able to le...

Minefield in beta

Minefield is a connection game, like Hex. You have to form a path of your stones connecting the two opposite edges of your color. But unlike Hex, Minefield is played on a square grid. Minefield uses a "prohibited glyphs" mechanism to prevent deadlocks. There are three small patterns of sto...

Narrows in alpha

Narrows is one of my best designs ever. Very simple. Every move is a kill. Robust despite the extreme violence. Very unique goal. To win, all of your islands (groups) must be interconnected by open water (interconnected, unoccupied points). Precludes deadlocks in a non-obvious way. It really checks ...

Tanbo in alpha

Tanbo (田んぼ, Japanese for rice paddy) is a game of roots. Or more precisely, root-like groups. The board starts out populated with loosely interspersed black and white stones. You place a stone orthogonally adjacent to exactly one of your on-board stones. This prevents roots from merging and clumps f...
