Regular non-premium users don't have a cap for tables. Might be because you are a very new member.
More than 15 open tables is not uncommon here on rainy days...

Some games are just hardly playable in a go, like Through the Ages with more than 2 players. Some games don't let you enough time to think your move, like race for the galaxy, fleet or love letter.
And then you realize it's fun to play slowly and start a bunch of turn-by-turn tables

You can also switch from "real time" to "turn-based". Then you get all the time you need to read the rules.
