Re: ELO Scoring

I've seen this point brought up multiple times and in different games. I don't have a developer experience on BGA, so it's a bit of an educated guess from my side, but the simplest solution for this seems to be to place all the non-winning players at T2 (tied for second) at the end of the game by sl...

Re: Season Points Awards Are Punitive

That's how it always works in the beginning of the arena with such kind of games. Points gained/lost depend on what ranks your opponents and you are. As everyone is around silver at the beginning, gaining is slow. You need to have a good run of games to jump up the rank and then it becomes even hard...

Re: Change Arena Format: Add End of Season Tournament

Maybe a spin on your idea, that is slightly more realistic to implement. Once a year have a "champions league" tournament (probably turn-based). Last four arenas' top 4 (or other number depending on the game) get the qualification spots for the tournament. If any qualified player qualifies...

Re: End of Arnea season: What is the tiebreaker?

This would be logical but unfortunately it's wrong. Contrary to the Elo points, the Arena points don't seem to have any hidden decimals, and the tie-breaker is a pretty silly one, i.e. whoever has played the game last (not necessarily in the Arena) goes first. Source: many years of playing in the A...

Re: End of Arnea season: What is the tiebreaker?

I can't tell for sure, but I'm almost certain, that Arena scores are only displayed as whole numbers, but are stored as decimals with a certain precision. So most likely when Arena scores appear tied in reality they are not, and thus no tiebreaker is needed. How many decimal points are there and wha...

Re: Arena for lucky games

I do agree, that Elo rating while good by itself is not an ideal solution for Arena, albeit maybe for slightly different reasons. That being said, I can't think of a better solution, that is practical for BGA. So here are my thoughts. Ratings in general and Elo rating specifically are designed to ev...

Re: Elo point

The way elo works is that both players "ante" rating points based on their rating difference, and the winner gets the pot. Elo uses the formula 1 / (1 + 10^(rating difference/400)) as the "better player's chance of winning", where "rating difference" is lower rated pla...

Re: determine arena format with less than 100 elo?

There might be a simpler way, but the only one I know is: In the game info find "My Arena history". It would say No Results for you, but jut click "View all seasons". This would land you on a current season page for the game, there is a link "+ See season rules" there, ...

First move advantage

Hi. I've recently tried this game and I like it for it's speed and simplicity, while still retaining it's tactical part. One thing I would be interested to hear your opinion on is a first move advantage (I'm talking 2 player game here). And I think most would agree, that going first does give you an...

Re: Elo point

In my mind ELO is ok even for luck-based games, it's just that a K factor has to account for that. Provided, that probability function p(D) stays the same for all games, K factors currently in use in both Arena and regular Elo suit long less-to-no luck based games. Luck based games should really hav...
