3. When you click on the table icon, you need to go to your list of tables. Not open the side bar
I think this suggestion solves a lot of what people want. Just have the table icon link straight to the table list. No side panel needed to show tables
When I clicked on the table icon it took me to the first game on turn, not the side bar. Which was actually much worse because it took me quite some time to find that side bar, and only because I clicked my avatar just to see what was there, and drawn to it a bit by that unnecessary green circle.
But back to the point... this is definitely, for me at least,
not a matter of getting used to things. That orange blob is difficult to see. I saw it, I got that the number indicated either games I had or ones on turn. But having the banner was so much more obvious and got me to my games list faster, and therefore to my turns faster. Adding extra clicks adds nothing. I get the page jumping around from the banner was a problem, but it seems that could be solved some other way.
I too do not need to see that I'm online.
I don't yet know whether the exclamation point for notifications will still be on my avatar or not because there haven't been any since I was last on. But if it only shows in the side panel, that's bad because I wouldn't even know that's there. I don't want to have to open the side panel every time I come on. The icons are not obvious. (Common icons change constantly and it's hard to keep up, and not all sites use the same ones, so it's a bad idea if you're assuming we know what they all mean.) Yes, it might be easier to message friends, but I rarely use that and don't care. I haven't experienced some of the other things yet.
And back to that idea about what will just take getting used to... well, first, people shouldn't have to get used to constant changes that are always going on. (And changes are constantly going on around here.) UNLESS the change is truly good and useful. And I don't think this is. Also, I already know I'm not fond of side panels in any way, so no, it's not just a matter of getting used to it. Sometimes there are things we know we don't like. And yes, people can get used to changes, but it doesn't make them "better" when people adapt; it just means they've adapted. Borg adapt too.
