Choosing to refuse to play people from a certain nationality? What's next, if they're a different skin color than yours, refuse? Different religion?
I think this goes greatly against what BGA stands for.

The current situation is not caused by the Russian people, but by their politicians. Some Russians did not want this either.

What may be a different option is to be able to create tournaments for certain nationalities. You're Swiss, so you could have a Swiss tounament, or something like it, and exclude all other nationalities.
But solely excluding 1 nationality is a step in the wrong direction.

I would like this option as well. I no longer feel comfortable writing "good game" to someone choosing to fly the Russian flag.

I suggest everyone red thumbs these 2 players who have voiced such racist attitudes, and then they can just play against each other and not have to worry about being matched against people who happen to have been born in Russia.

Many Russians abhor the actions of their government, but there is little they can do about it.

And for * to judge an entire people by their leader's actions is ironic, given that his country voted Trump into power not so long ago.

*Moderation Edit: please do not use the Forums to call players out by name. The Forums should remain a general discussion.

To the OP: This thing is not possible, but you can avoid players by yourself, using the Red Thumbs. Cette chose, c'est pas possible maintenant. Mais tu peux choisir les joueurs que tu joues avec, en utilisant les pouces rouges.

You do a similar thing... You call out on players to Red Thumb 2 people, because their political ideas don't match yours
The OP asked IF it was possible, only. And used "par exemple".
And you offer a judgmental opinion about a player from US speaking against the Russian situation now, because of the player's former country-leader.
Yes, the majority of Russia you talk about, means approximately 65%. Which is... a low number, in my opinion. given the situation.

I don't agree with Voriki 100%: When BGA was created, I don't think they had a War in mind... Moreover, if a player hosts a table (Basic/Premium), i think it is his/her right to choose who she/he plays with, even if it's based on nationality (it is a discrimination, yes, but as long as you don't voice out your reason of selection, I don't think it is anyone's business who you want to play with, and who you don't). Also, there are different kinds of discriminations.
If an Ukrainian player expels (and boycotts playing with) Russian players... you will have the nerve to accuse that player of racism and discrimination? Really? That is your sense of neutral justice?
Your comparisons are pale, IMO... I think this a a hugely different situation than those of discriminating someone who has a different skin colour or different sexual orientation (Russia also has anti-LGBT laws, by the way).

I think it's a very sensitive and different subject, I am not sure how you can see it in a similar colour as the other examples you gave. It is really more complicated than that.

Also, a question for you: For arguments' sake, if Putin creates a BGA account, and he SOMEHOW makes his username public, would you agree to ban his account if you were ruling this site?

You completely misunderstand. Refusing to play with some specific person (or 2 people) because you find their attitude offensive is one of the reasons we are given red thumbs. Refusing to play with ALL people of some nation, colour, gender because you assume they all think alike is not OK.

So you no longer judge the game itself, but the nationality of the opponent?

Voriki, I also have psychological issues now, in playing with people from Russia, even though I understand that a lot of them oppose what Putin is doing (a lot of them don't, though).
It is a difficult subject, but I understand these thoughts that people express on the forum.

I am sure your "completely" is not very strong.
I think 1 of us misunderstood, yes. It's ok.
The OP asked IF it was possible, only. (S)he didn't even use the words "I suggest", like you did. You could have Red Thumbed them, without suggesting it to everybody.
Maybe (s)he (the OP) personally wants to avoid players whose leader goes full war in 21st. century, without having to always expel or Red Thumb (like a filter). The OP didn't say "I suggest we ban all Russian players or 2 particular players, from the site", or other similar thing, to which I would have also opposed, if I had been asked about it.
And another thing... you give the argument that "many people oppose their leader"; yet... you give a counter example to an American Citizen, using a "Trump" argument. It seems a bit contradictory.

But I am sure you can see the difference between NATION and Colour, Sexual Orientation or Gender, in these particular sensitive moments.

A player gave an opinion on this issue, to which I agree.
Romain672 wrote: 26 February 2022, 08:25 The point is to increase the consequences of a nation declaring war, to make it maybe not do it in the future.
Banning from a gaming site is minor, but this and others thousands minor others thing can make a good difference on the moral of a nation.

I personnally understand that reasonning

There have always been wars, it's only that it's now affecting western civilisation that everyobody suddenly notices.
I didn't hear the same complaint with all the wars in Africa or S-America, or in Asia internally.

BGA should stay out of politics. It is a place where people can come to relax, be themselves(within the ToS).

I agree, everyone is allowed to make INDIVIDUAL decisions to choose who to play with, and with who you don't.
You can always find a reason to select individual people to expel, such as not enough experience in the game, too many time outs, etc....

But what was requested was the ability to block whole nationalities in an automatic setting. In that case you do voice out your reason of selection auromatically if you go this route. You are also blocking Russian players who do not agree with the war. Russian players who have family in the Ukraine.

I cannot stress this often enough, BGA must stay out of politics.

You can't change skin color or sexual orientation, just like you can't change the country where you were born.

Yes, Russia has anti-LGBT laws, but that doesn't mean the people agree with the laws. This whole discussion is actually about the people. They want to block the people for the actions of the country/politicians.
Why should the people always be the victim here?

There are LGBT people in Russia too, and sure some of them are on BGA too, you'd be blocking them too based on the idealogy that you don't agree with their laws.
Or say you are a 420friendly person, would you then block out all nationalities with laws against it? Even if a certain portion of their people do not agree with those laws, and may even do it themselves?

BGA should provide equal opportunities to participate in this community, and judge based on actions of individuals alone.

If Putin follow the ToS, respects other players and keeps politics out of his gameplay and community actions, I would gladly play him.
BGA should only judge based on actions under their control.

If BGA would disagree with my answer, then they should ban my account too. I have made mistakes in the past too, did get punished for it already(different than what Putin is doing now, he has yet to receive punishment, and I agree it should be severe). If BGA judges a players account based on real life actions, they may ban my account too.
