Accept/Decline option for turn-based games.

Post by JustHere4Tichu »

Hi,

I think applying an accept/decline option when the table has become full and ready to start, as there already is fo real-time games, would be useful addition. I have noticed that the player that initially opens up the turn based game table has no option to decline the start of the game when it becomes full and ready to start. I have had the experience where two friends join a 3, or 4, player game (a long game) and have towards the end played it as a semi co-op game where one player who has no chance of winning helps his/her friend to win when they would not have won otherwise. I personally, don't like the idea of playing against two friends in the same, long game when I have spent a long time and a lot of effort to win, to be the victim of this kind of kingmaking or semi co-op play.

Therefore, I would like there to be the option to accept or decline the start of a turn-based game, please.

Thanks

What those people did was kingmaking, and is a reportable offense if you can find good examples of this.

If you please could enlighten us about how to report someone for kingmaking, while the system specifically only gives the pretty useless red thumb option for this, and doesnt care about cheating from different players.

I don‘t play turn based games for various reasons, but adding such a confirm button doesnt seem wrong either way.

It's indeed not easy to report people for kingmaking, and you'll need many examples, multiple tables where this happens. BGA didn't make reporting this easy on purpose, otherwise everyone would constantly report it.

Adding such a button keep tables open for too long.

Say I love playing a certain game , and I open a couple of tables for it, which fill up quite fast. As I can only open 4 tables at a time, I wait for the first tables to have filled up, and then open new ones until I have 20 ongoing tables.
But what if someone joined the turnbased game, and then logs out? This is something they have every right from doing, since it's turnbased,it's often applicable for games that don't fill up fast.
Then my table has to remain open till the next day that player logs in, and I am unable to open new tables, or I'm forced to kick that player out.

So you gather evidence and send it where exactly?

From the report link "works together with another player to win the game"
"The best way to combat Kingmaking is to give the Kingmaker player a red thumb (public red thumbs). There is no use filling in a report here: please give a red thumb to the one who made the kingmaking moves." - seems pretty explicit that there is no way to report kingmaking to BGA.

I am not interested in reporting anyone for kingmaking due to the difficulties mentioned in other replies. Additionally, this post was not meant to insitgate a discussion, more to prompt BGA admins to consider applying an accept or decline option.

It is ammusing how people sit and think of a way and an example, one that rarely happens, to undermine a suggestion. Adding such a button does not necessarily, definitely keep tables open longer. And even if it does sometimes at the expense of saving someone from wasting hours and suffering and unpleasant experience, then I think it is worth it and cost next to nothing. So what if a table attempts to start and it is declined. You either remove the player that declined to start, or close the table and open a new one.

Where did you get this example from? Have you tried this, seen this? I have never attempted such a thing. I'd never thought of such an idea or seen it, and I am pretty confident most people don't either. And, even if, somone wants to open lots of tables, which they can't, that is hardly a huge problem for anyone. This situation you have thought of is pretty unique.

And so,if by any rare chance this situation arises, and someone just happens to log out moments after they joined the table and you are stuck with them but the table is not full, the table will not attempt to start the game and whether there is an accept/decline option to starting the game, or not, is irrelevant because the game will not start.

The fact they have merely logged off is no problem, the problem comes from when you don't want to play with two particular people of which you would be happy enough to play against one, but not both and the table is full and starts before you can quit, and then you stuck with playing the whole game or quitting and suffering the penalties (which I don't like to do).

If you are happy to play with this one player who has happened to log off, there is no problem, you just wait for enough players to jloin until the table is full and you can start - again, existence of an accept/decline option causes no problems. If you don't want to play with the individual player and the table is not yet full, as per your example, just kick the player or quit yourself.

Sorry, this example has no merit in my opinion. Thanks for the response though.

Could you use quotations? I understood none of what you wrote as part of the things are things you say, other things is what others say, including me.

Your message makes no sense ending with a quotation by me.

Voriki,

You should, as I can see you understand English, be able to understand what I have said in my last email. None of is meant to be a quote, it was a way to reply to your comment. I referred to the different parts of your message throughout my reply. I had some trouble understanding your comments because you did not use punctuation all the time it was needed.

I have another game/situation in a turn based game of Carnegie with two players from the same country that might be friends, and they are seemingly playing tandem with each other. I knew when I saw the start of the game, that I would have possibly declined the start of this game. And, after 8 rounds of the game, my concern has been realised. This is just more proof that an accept/decline option on turn based games would ONLY be beneficial.

It's not unique, every time I want to start a stack of turnbased games, I would experience this. This could be daily, this could be weekly.

Exactly, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. The table will NOT start.
And as long as the table won't start, it shows to me as an open table and I cannot open new tables. I can only have 4 open tables waiting for people to join, or as per your suggestion to hit the accept button.
