Post by Maybo »

I strongly support bringing back turn based no time limit. I prefer not to play training mode, but I have friends who I play with who - from time to time - have life situations where I would absolutely not dream of asking them to commit to any of sort of time limit (e.g. one just became a mom a few weeks ago), but at the same time I know that when they have time they really enjoy taking a turn in a game or two.

No time limit really is an integral part of how we use BGA.

Yeah, same. I pretty much exclusively play turned-based with friends, many of whom live in far flung places around the world with all different schedules and our ability to connect over games has been really fantastic. Unless we forget to set the option, we always play with no time limit because who cares how long it takes. I guess I don't really care *that* much about my player rating so training mode isn't the end of the world, but it just seems annoying to lose the the no time limit with friends option. I don't see any reason why it needed to be changed.

My bad, I did not realized this was a new thread, about the Realtime side of it?

I can see that if people somehow started a Realtime game as unlimited that it would block them, but I never did this. When I set it to no time limit, it acted like a normal turn based game, with the longer timers.

I would be interested to see how people got this problem.

Literally the FIRST line in the post "This is _related_ to but _not_ a duplicate of the thread "No Time Limit shouldn't mean Training Mode""

Literally the SECOND line in the post "This post detangles the concerns of the Turn Based games, which was unfortunately also impacted by the "No Time Limit" change, from the real-time game which the original post in that other thread is concerned with."

Name of thread: "Bring back Turn Based "No Time Limit + Friends Only""

Adding my voice to this too. I was playing all games with friends as no time limit (turn-based) as my friends and I do disappear for periods of time - we all have young families. Some of the group only play these friend based games and so don't have to worry if they don't get on for most of a week. For me personally, I play a number of games with strangers as well, and having my friends games with no time limit means I can focus on games with a time limit if my time is short.

I agree that time penalties do mean something, even if there is no respective karma penalty. I mean, you could argue exit penalties also don't mean a lot if you have a 100% karma rating that means you've essentially earned back the goodwill lost by the mistake you made, but I don't think that's true either. I've also looked at a person's profile before deciding to kick them from a game where they are repeatedly over time on their turns (I don't even look until they've done it a couple of times in my game), and might give them a bit more leeway if they don't have a history of it. And I personally hate having a big red button that allows me to boot my friends because they've been a bit slow. Yeah, I won't usually click it, but occasionally I have bumped things unintentionally on my screen, or my kids have (I play on a tablet), or double-tapped something by accident. I would just prefer it wasn't there.

It literally says "turn based" in the title.

+1! You have my axe as well :)

I’ve never posted on this forum before the original thread, as many other players stated as well. This change is just so unfortunate and, as many feel, unnecessary. I hope the admins will reconsider.

By starting a game via the old lobby, you get a list of first the realtime options, then the turn-based options and then without time limit. If you chose the last option (which is now out of function), a game without time limit was started as a turn-based game.

However, in some games (it happened to me once, but I can't remeber in which game), you have got the option without time limit at the end of the realtime options as well as at the end of the turn-based options. If you chose the first one, a game without time limit was started as a realtime game. This resulted in players being blocked, because you can't play 2 realtime games. These games where automatically stopped, if no one played for several hours.

I consider the option of "games without time limit started as a realtime game" as a bug, because it doesn't make sense at all. If this bug were corrected, we would have saved ourselves all this mess!
