so the moment you get one, you can be a total douche for the rest of the week with no repercussions?

i give thumbs up to everyone i play with as long as they behave and don't lag too badly. if enough people do this, you can play a few dozen more games and those thumb-downs go below the 10% mark and nobody cares anymore.

being new to BGA and learning the ropings i got 3 thumbs down in my first couple games. Now that im more experienced I still feel like this needs to change. i hate not being about to join games because people dont want to play with someone 10<% or 20. also idiots dont even bother leaving a thumbs up. i think there should only be the option to leave thumbs up or down at certain times. untill this changes im just going to give everyone thumbs down to prove my point. how can i recommend this to my friends when they will have the same issues i had starting out. it shouldnt be like this, especially at the begining! donate my money? sure buddy, just change a few big issues you have and ill be glad to. I would even pay $10-15 a month if this site was better.

you get thumbs down for being an asshat, for being really, REALLY slow, and for meeting other asshats who thumb-down people for no reason.

"proving your point" will just ensure that even fewer people will want to play with you from now on. don't be part of the problem.

(as for not playing with you - 95% of the games that go up are not restricted in any way, and most people will still play with you if you only have a few thumbs down (even if that is 50% of your total)

and, of course, the thumbs up/down are a player's reminder of whether they want to play with you again or not. nobody is *obligated* to give you one, and in fact begging for them will probably net you more reds :)

I don't understand, not only have I gotten a thumbs down for beating someone, now I get one for conceding a game. What is wrong with the people in this community, this sort of behavior is quite rank.

I often get red thumbs when playing the combo Amsug-Temporal boots in Seasons.
It ends the game sooner and some people become angry because of that.

Childish behavior.

I give thumbs down for slow response times. I mainly play Race for the Galaxy. I understand more thinking time is needed on the last turn. This is true for many games.

I also give thumbs down to other players who lose the game. I am a well ranked player (usually around 1650). I play with anyone. When very low ranked players join my game, I feel sometimes they make stupid moves, and I beat them easily. Did I enjoy playing with them? No, I did not. Hence the thumbs down.

Hello

What you say here is very very interesting, and reveals the mainly weakness of the thumb system. You put red thumb because you don't want to play again with some weak players (not all I presume, because if it was the case, you could make a level filter on your table). it's completely normal, BUT the problem is that is shown to others, and maybe they believed mister X ot Y has another red thumb (given by you) because he quit games or make flamewars.... and it's not true, it's just because he has a weak level.
It misses a personal thumb system, where only you can see a thumb you give. It could always be the noprmal thumb system for global inappropriate behaviours, but if we had this second thumb systemp, I'm sure it will avoid unfair thumbs like those you put ( not unfair to your eyes, but to compared with thumbs for bad speaking or wild leaving)

My experience so far as been that many players will thumb down a player who is inexperienced and doesn't present much of a challenge. I figured this site would be good to learn games but I've received a few thumbs for simply not playing well. That is definitely a flaw in this thumb system when people can set limits to who can play in a game. Right now I am under 90% so anyone who sets the game below that means I cannot play. I have not done anything else to warrant thumbs down.

another problem with the system (in addition of the lack of a personal thumb system) is the chosen levels for designing a "too much red thumbed player' The rate is 10% and 20% of red thumbs. Admin often says that yeah some people abuse of the red thumbs but in global, system works. I agree with him, there is more people whot put red thumbs for serious reasons than the opposite. But the number of people whot put red thumbs for bad reasons is more than 20% (for me it's around 33%)

So thre rate of 10% and 20% is too hard, because of the huge number of players who put red thumns for very very subjective (and sometimes, scandalous) reasons

I'm not sure I was clear on this, please forgive my bad english...

I just had someone refuse to play a game with me because I had 6 red thumbs, and then who went on to play a game with a player more than 300 ELO lower than me. Honestly, people who put 90%+ settings are just being annoying and inconsiderate. I think the filters for green thumbs should either be lowered significantly, or removed completely. At the moment they're calibrated under the assumption that you get a green thumb if you don't get a red thumb. In reality, players leave a green/red thumb less than half the time, and this is skewing the filter system, because we only get about half the green thumbs we should, but get all of the red thumbs, and as others have mentioned, the reasons for those red thumbs tend to be weak or spiteful. A more reasonable number for a red thumb filter would therefore be 30% instead of our current 10/20%, since currently the vast majority of players have 10% or more red thumbs. Alternatively, we could just make green thumbs automatic and red thumbs manually toggled to rebalance the system.
