Machiavelli

Post by sourisdudesert »

We are happy to introduce today Machiavelli, a classic Italian card game.

This game requires several decks of 52 standard playing cards. The goal is to be the first player to play all the cards in his hand by placing combination of cards on the table. Valid combination are:
_ sequences of 3 or more cards from the same color (ex: 8♥, 9♥, 10♥, V♥)
_ 3 or 4 cards with the same value, but with different color (ex: 7♥ 7♦ 7♠).

If you don't manage to play any card from your hand at your turn, you must draw a card.

The most interesting rule of this game is the following: you can take back any group of cards from the table in your hand, in order to reorganize cards in a different manner, and then to play more cards on the table. However, be careful when you do this: all cards you take back from the table must be placed again on the table at the end of your turn - otherwise you get a penalty.

To win, you have to imagine interesting cards reconfiguration, and this require a lot of mental gymnastics: it happens quite often that you have to move 20 or more cards in order to play only one from your hand :)

Machiavelli has been developed by Emanuele Sicchiero using BGA Studio: a big "thank you" to him for this wonderful work!

Enjoy!

It's so simple when you play with 2 players.

Maybe when you play with 4/5 players it's better. But thanks for BGA for add a new game :3.

P.D: Add Chinchon, it's a nice game too!

I played a good number of matches in real life when I was a child and I can confirm you... in 4 or 5 players it can be a delirium, particularly if there's a player who tries to accumulate cards in the first rounds to suddenly shock the other players in a single round :D

I don't play it from... well, at least a decade, but I'm really happy to find it here on BGA :D

This is the same as the game Rummikub (Pressman) but:
- With cards instead of tiles
- No point scoring system for multiple rounds of play
- No jokers (and hence no rules surrounding them)

Hi all,
I changed the game rule about restoring. Now, when a player chooses to restore, he will receive only 1 card from the deck. This to avoid unfair strategy some players begin to adopt.
Hope the new change will be apreciated.

Cheers,
Emanuele

I don't like

I will prefer the penalty rule in points (when you've more than 20 cards, you lose 1 point).

You proposal is very different from the game nature. Machiavelli is not a game you win counting your points. You win when you have no more cards in your hand and nothi
ng else.

Anyway, I'll consider a possible way to assign points, positive and negative. This could be a good solution.

I know, maybe you can add a optional when you create a game (like options in Tokaido).
