Trade phase - my timer runs while waiting for another player to answer

Post by Cos- »

This has happened to me a couple of times recently, but only recently. As you can see, I offered a trade, and one of the other two players answered, but I'm still waiting for the other player to answer. Yet it notified me, and it shows the hourglass for running clock on both me and the player who hasn't answered.

I know there's a setting under trade notifications to notify me when any player has answered, but I checked and I definitely still have it set to the default, which is to notify me when all other players have responded. I also tried changing it, and changing it back. But the game still seems to act like it's my turn, even though I still want to wait for the remaining player to answer.

In the screenshot, both hour timers have the moon icon over them because it's a fast turn based game and outside of playing hours, but you can see the player who has responded doesn't have that icon, because the game knows it's not their turn and they don't have to do anything right now. Normally, it would also know that it's not my turn, either, until everyone else responds to the offer.

Is this a known bug?

Are you sure your clock is running, or is it only that you appear as active because you *can* do something, even though you don't have to? It seems you have 12:00 hours, and as far as I remember, as soon as your clock runs you'll see 11:59 instead.

Yes, the hourglass icon is animated, and if I leave the game it tells me it's my turn and the "next" button from another table takes me to this table. The reason it says "12:00" is what I wrote in my post above - this is a fast turn-based game, and it's outside of the table's playing hours when I took this screenshot, so the moon icon appears next to the timer for everyone whose turn it is and the actual time doesn't change yet.

You can see that the moon icon does _not_ appear for the player whose turn it isn't (the one who didn't respond to the trade request) - it's not their turn, their clock wouldn't be running. My clock should look the same, I shouldn't have either the moon next to my actual time remaining nor should I have the hourglass icon with moon over it where my user icon would be, nor should the "next" button take me to this table, nor should this table have the hourglass icon animated on the list of my current tables. All of these are indicators that BGA says it's my turn and I need to do something, and my clock is active.

Yes, during the trade phase the clock runs for everyone who hasn't rejected the trade.

I think the clock mechanics need a bit of work with respect to trading. As soon as you start trying to make trades, the clock expires VERY quickly. I think there should be a small amount of time added for each trade action, or some similar mechanic.

Same thing happened to me just now. This was in a tournament game, turn-based game with "24 hours a day (no playing hours)".

In my case it's a four-player game. I made an offer and the hourglasses of two of my opponents began to turn. The remaining player, I guess has trade notifications set to not be alerted to the trade I offered. The window was open and when one of my opponents declined my offer I got the sound that it's my turn. But there's still one player remaining, whose hourglass is still spinning because he hasn't responded to my trade. Now on the table there are two of us whose hourglass is spinning, me and that player who has yet to respond. The message is "Trade phase: You shall make or evaluate offers".

This is how it's supposed to work if I have "Alert me on first reply" selected. But I don't have that option selected, I'm still on the default, "Alert me when everyone has replied".

Must be a new bug.

Yes, exactly. It acts as if I have "alert me on first reply" even though I don't. And also, it only acted like that for _one_ trade during the game; for all other trades in the same game, it worked as it should, not starting my timer again until both other players responded.

I opened a bug: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=95003

Could you reply on that bug, and say it happened to you? If you have a table number where it happened to you, add that too. And add a thumbs up on the bug :)

It just happened to me again, at https://boardgamearena.com/6/catan?table=430979232

I offered a trade, and the game properly acted like it wasn't my turn anymore, because I'm waiting for others to respond. But now that one of the two other players rejected the offer, BGA is once again acting as if it's my turn, with the timer running indicator, and the "next table" button taking me to this table to make my move. But I'm still waiting for the other player to respond, so it's not my move and shouldn't be. Very much a bug, and this is at least the fourth time it has happened to me in the past several months.

As before, I double checked that my trade "alert" setting is set to "Alert me when everyone has replied".

As before, I tried changing it to "Alert me on first reply", reloading, then changing it back to "Alert me when everyione has replied", and reloading again. It didn't help.

I know this has happened to other people. Please vote on the bug: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=95003

This has happened to me, too (though not recently) in such a situation:

1. It's my turn and I raise a first trade offer.
2. My timer stops and the timers of the three other players start to run down.
3. Two of the three other players reject my offer and their timers stop.
4. The timer of the third other player still runs down - and mine also.

I have reported this as a bug, but I don't think I ever got an answer.

I guess we have to live with the fact that this - definitely wonderful - website does not always work flawless. I am in awe and wonder that Catan works as well as it does.

Could you link to the bug you reported?

Also, would you vote for the bug I reported (that I already linked earlier in this thread) ?
