There are so many many reports about how awful it is to deal with others when playing Hanabi. I have never played it, but something about that game brings out the worst in too many people.

Sounds like it often adds stress to you life to play it. Do you get many times more joy out of it other times? If not, maybe the answer is to play some of the other 600+ options available here. Why open your life to unhappy experiences like this? How is this game worth that?

OR- find a few good Hanabi players and start a tournament for just you and don't play with strangers anymore.

That is what I do for Ticket To Ride. I don't like scarce resources games and many like to play that way. Better for me to just play with the few I like or not play than let that stress upset my world.

I still don't understand why people voluntarily play co-op games with randos on the internet, and then complain about internet dwellers being internet dwellers. Surely it can't be fun.

Well, there is a fantasy world in which everyone is well behaved and you can play games like this with complete strangers and expect good outcomes. And then there is the world we live in. But no one wants to accept that certain games just don't translate well to an anonymous online format. Even if the vast majority of players are fine, you only need one jerk to completely ruin an experience.

I always thought there is an unlimited amount of private red thumbs you can give? Am I wrong on this? If I am not, where is the problem?

I thought I was clear in my title. My problem isn’t w/ internet dwellers being internet dwellers. It is w/ internet dwellers being internet dwellers and being able to report you and be supported by bga. In my report they actually put the negative things said to me. I just replied to it. No I won’t quit. No im not being a problem but your negative words/ actions towards me is a problem. So I can file a report which indicates I have a problem w/ their actions but I can’t say their actions are problematic in the chat??? That is backwards.

Meeple to your point about the class tattletale you can’t be the bully and the tattletale. This is like the school bully trying to punch an innocent kid but they grab the bullies arm. Then the bully running to the teacher to tell that he tried to punch billy but Billy grabbed his arm. Then the teacher disciplines billy and gives him a week detention.

Green thumbs like red thumbs in my opinion should be earned. You need to green thumb 5 ppl to red thumb someone. You also have had to play w/ them recently. So I know ppl are giving random ppl green thumbs just so they can red thumb ppl. Just because you played w/ someone once and they didn’t call you a bleep doesn’t necessarily mean they are a person who should be green thumbed. In fact the last time I went to give ppl green thumbs two of the accounts had a page full of comments of how awful they are.

You haven't answered my question at all. There are 2 kinds of red thumbs, private and public. Are both limited by amount of green thumbs?

Title. The point was missed. But I will give an example from my 1st moderation. I never played w/ this person. They spammed the forums talking about me. So much so that when I made a comment about suggestions for new game modes in that game another player said “wow a comment that isn’t negative here”. I said don’t worry about the above post. The account was just created to troll me. I got moderated. The negative post right above mine remained lol. I’m leaving out a lot more that could be added for my defense. But this isn’t about them. Trolling is actually against bga policy. But saying someone is trolling you who clearly is is a violation?

They are functionally different. Private red thumbs only adds them to a personal blacklist. Public red thumbs can have an impact on their karma, which in turn limits their social functions.

Actually, this rule exist in many internet spaces. Do not engage. In my experience it helps keeping them clean, friendly and safe-space'y in ppl not offending ppl way.

You do not engage with anyone trolling or insulting you directly. It:
- keeps public space clean for all users, as offensive language/trolling is limited to one post, there is no long string of fighting, no dragging in others, no taking sides...
- organically curbs trolls, as a lot of them won't keep going if what they are writing is ignored. Some might even not start at all, as they know they'll be ignored and reported. Yes, it works.
- makes moderation easier as there is no need to plow through endless arguments "they said - but they said - but they said it first". If you engage, you are fighting publicly, which is prohibited, so you're breaking the rules.
- there is more to achieve by going directly to moderators, than by engaging. What result you expect when you tell someone they are doing something bad? They already know, they already don't care, and you're just venting your frustrations (for everyone to see, and others may not want to see it, too) without achieveling anything? No one will change their behavior because some rando online said "I don't like what you're doing". It's harder to ignore moderation. So, engaging is also pointless.

So. Yes. Do not engage. You'll achieve the same nothing as with doing nothing, but you won't add to making things uncomfortable for others.
