BURRACO (and other rummy games)

Post by pardalis10 »

Has anyone already thought to develop a version of Burraco, an Italian Rummy game? It is a fun game, very popular in Italy, but related with other games from South America and Greece (Canasta, Brazilian Buraco, Argentinian Burako, Greek Biriba). Rules can be found here: *

Of course it is highly influenced by luck, but it is deep enough, both strategically and tactically. It would be great to have a version of Classic Canasta too (not only Hand and Foot).

*moderator edit: linking to other gaming sites is not permitted on BGA

Nope. It's all yours to develop. Good luck!

Now if you're looking for someone to do it for you, then yes. All developers have plenty of projects in mind already. Turns out the BGA forum is full of people demanding more, but contributing little.

I was also looking for BURRACO, but it seems that no one is willing to develop it, it's a real shame.

You can give it a shot as well

Dear Kayvon,

your answer is unnecessarily impolite. I would be glad to develop a game: unfortunately, I have no expertise in developing programs and games, and I think it is not a field good for improvisations. If your policy is to mortify anyone who makes a suggestion, then I wonder how you can find it useful.
Best,

Stefano

Well, to be serious, there are tons of 'game request' posts, but they don't contribute anything.
They needlessly clog the forum. I can find 7 such posts in the current first page of suggestion forum alone.
That's why BGA decided to put them here altogether: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1040
Personally, I don't think these are 'suggestions' as posters are just listing their demands while doing nothing themselves.
Remember, someone has to spend their time and effort to implement games.

- Non-public domain games w/o license: Contact and persuade the publisher instead.

- Games with license clearance or public domain games:
You want the game to be on the platform? Then you should act.
I'm not making fun of anyone, it's just how things go. Learn how to code your game, hire someone else, or wait indefinitely.
Have you seen the list of public domain games released recently?
I'm pretty sure none of the developers of those games actually have read any of these posts at all to develop their game.

I was answering Kayvon, not you: I don't think he/she needs an advocate.
I pay a contribution to BGA: it would not be so much, but it is something. I cannot program any game, since I am no developer and work in a totally different field. If you are so annoyed by people making suggestions, then close directly any forum about that: mortifying people is not a good tool.
You pretty sure no developer read such posts? You developed games and you read this post: you contradict yourself.
Best to leave BGA, than to play in such a community.

The original question was, "Has anyone already thought to develop" a game. I'm not trying to offend anyone with a straightforward response:
1) The game is available if you wish to develop it
2) If you're simply asking someone to do it for you... be the change you want to see in the world!

Ufm is exactly right here. There's nothing mortifying about inviting people to join the developers in learning something new. There are lots of people on the site who have done just that. What a wonderfully inclusive idea! Of course, as you said, the idea isn't for everyone. In that case, sadly, there are no shortage of games that developers already want to work on. There's even an entire thread with (at the moment) 157 pages of suggestions.

Now, you can choose to be offended by an open invitation to expand your horizons and do something new or you can take it in the spirit of inclusiveness with which the offer was extended. Just consider: While I'm inviting more people to join the ranks, you're merely inviting me to leave BGA. I'm not sure I'm the one who is "mortifying people" here.

Because I said the same thing to Fadesimo above?

In fact I and many others (including Kayvon above) did so several times before (including in elsewhere), but they simply wouldn't listen.
And again, I just addressed how things go.
There are tons of games waiting years after granting license to be implemented.
Some games fail to get developers even they offer some monetary reward. So, what are the chances?

I developed/maintained 70 games, but the wishlist didn't affect my decision at all. I develop what I want.
Then, check the recently released other public domain games.
Minnesota Whist, Cucco, Hachi-hachi, Wolf and Sheep, Shogi, Slobberhannes...
Do you really think the developers looked through 'suggestions' to choose these games?

The answer is simple: No (as Kayvon said), and anyone can start developing the game (also as Kayvon said).
You got the most accurate answer. What did you expect? Someone to appear right away and do the job in your stead?
To be honest, if I did post local games I implemented (e.g. Nylon-ppong, Seotda, etc) like this, I would've received the same answer:
'No, you should do it yourself'.
