This game looks pretty cool, so bow down to your AI overlord and kiss the feet.

Our whole civilization is built upon the back of stolen labor and much worse. It's actually pretty fitting if you think about it like that.
Also, i assume everyone here will be unsubscribing from boardgamearena now, right?!
You'd have to if you feel so strongly about that issue, if not, what does it say about you?

I don't think a reply could have more bad faith packed into it than this. False equivalency to the extreme. What does that say about you? Except highlighting your horrid lack civility.siimannus wrote: ↑31 July 2024, 14:50What are you typing this on, a stone tablet?Mathew_Williamson wrote: ↑25 July 2024, 15:37All they're saying is that a person utilized the image generator and touched them up with photoshop. Re: Can't support AI art
I was interested in the game, but man ... so many indie, small board game companies are able to pay their artists. Even if they just have one. There's really no excuse for this. It's just laziness and cost cutting ... the AI "aesthetic" doesn't look good, even when you brush it up. It's so generic and same looking - overly rendered, overly attractive or grotesque, weird lighting and "off" body parts.

Re: Can't support AI art
It was quite obvious that there will be people complaining about the AI art...
But the good thing is, you don't have to play or buy the game. Freedom of choice
I'm really happy it's on BGA so everyone can test the game and see if it's actually a good game for them or not. Thank you developer(s) and BGA!

Programmers produce software capable of making and editing images. Programmers are people. Programmers are supported by software companies, with investments and expenditures that support people of many walks of life.
If you can't support AI art, then you don't support all those people.
More power to game developers and publishers who use AI art.
Here's hoping that Path of Civilization has great success.

I guess ar is like food.
There is burger and burger.
The burger in a 3 star restaurant and the burger in any fast food, while technically having the same same ... They doesn't have the same quality, you don't have the same pleasure eating them.
For me, art made by people, are the restaurant, AI art are the junk food. And both have enough place to exist.
I will be honest, I'm curious about the gameplay. If the gameplay is good, then I don't care if the art was made by an artist, an AI or is just stick people.
A bad gameplay, you can have the art made by Michaelangelo (the artist, not the turtle), that would not make me want to play the game.
And if the game sells well and work well, maybe later they could be a new edition with hand made arts, who knows.

Re: Can't support AI art
I find the debate so ridiculous, when we see the images of terraforming Mars we clearly don't play the game for its illustrations. a bad game can be illustrated by the best of humans no one will play it.
This game is one of the best I have played and certainly not the ugliest while the images were made by an AI absolutely does not appeal to me in the least.
everyone to whom I presented the physical box loved it, we will now be able to play it on BGA

Re: Can't support AI art
I'm with the OP. As an artist, and as someone who was on occasion worked in games, I won't play a game made with AI generated art.

Well, eating burgers in a fast food is forgivable.
