Tried abandoning the game but there was no automatic yes vote for the skipped player.

Having to play the rest of the game by skipping the turns is a waste of time.

Then it's a bug. But I tried it (same game, same use case), and abandoning worked fine. So without more information about the error you encountered, not much can be done: please file a detailed bug report.

I would like to see a "Concede" option - especially in a two player game. Sometimes it becomes obvious that there is an early lead which is very unlikely or impossible to swing the other way. Concede can give the other player the credit for a win, give them ELO points for that win, take ELO points from the conceder as if a loss; and most importantly not receive an out of time / quit penalty and save some of our most precious resource - time.

Some may argue that concede is the same as quit. I would disagree. Quit is a negative action to leave a game before the outcome is determined, while concede is to give victory to the other player (and all associated benefits) without having to step through remaining turns of the game. Just my opinion, and possibly not a popular one.

Thank you so much for responding and I am now considering all what you've mentioned. Hopefully others will have read what you said. You must've made an improvement within the time I got a leave penalty as I explained in an earlier post and the time we played this guy, or else there was a glitch that he took advantage of? In this instance, you're right, it worked out perfectly. I wasn't aware that you've been updating your new improvements and will take a look.

Why I had written this whole post was because I was really worried ending his turn would end the game, as this is what happened to me when someone else skipped my turn in a previous game only a day or two earlier. I was midway through making a huge transmuting move in Seasons and had run out of time with all the clicking I was doing in between cards and energies and another sore loser named Riahblood, instead of rage quit, he rage skipped me. I immediately tried to get back into the game but it wouldn't let me, saying I had run out of time and must leave the room. Then, the game was abandoned by everyone even though nobody had voted, and I got a leave penalty and time penalty along with a thumbs down because this sore loser didn't like my major vp winning move i made at the last turn of the game and since i was out of time, he skipped me. It really was horrible bc I asked the players not to skip me and I was clearly using the allotted time to play my move, and he didn't skip me at first... he waited until i made the big move that would surpass him in vp during my last turn.

I thought since it was the last turn of the game with the player in the above post, that skipping him would do the same to the game as it had done to me in the game i just described. Was this some sort of glitch what happened to me, maybe? I reported him as taking advantage of a glitch but it was deemed no rules were broken. Was the game supposed to get automatically abandoned bc I ran out of time and he skipped me and i was supposed to get a leave penalty and time penalty like that without the chance to get back in? or was it supposed to work out like it had in the game with the player who had rage quit and left us for an hr? Or was there an improvement made to the new system that allowed it to work better? I had liked the new system until that happened to me, and have been fearful it would happen again on the last move, the critical move of the game in Seasons. I know this is the reason for other players not liking the new system and perhaps they are not just not getting their point across when they are angry.

You're welcome. I play on here enough that it is well deserved, even if I got burned by a sore loser. Since I know now that you're still making improvements and are reading the posts, I am very glad I chose to contribute for the whole year. We do appreciate you guys in the end. We probably think there's more people behind bga than there really is.

Well then you'll be glad to learn that it has been available since at least a year :D
It's mentioned at least in those two pages: http://boardgamearena.com/#!doc/Rating and http://boardgamearena.com/#!doc/Gamehelpquoridor

Allright, that's true, it should be somewhere in the F.A.Q (http://boardgamearena.com/#!doc/Faq), but please remember that most documentation pages on BGA (including this one) are available to edit by the community (it's a wiki, with updates taken into account once per day). Since we don't have time to do everything - and know it -, we built things so that people who care, can. This has worked very well for translations and for developing new games, but not so well for documentation. Anyway, it's never too late to contribute ;)

That's right. You can check the replay game log http://boardgamearena.com/#!gamereview?table=12404276 and you'll see that there was a game error while skipping your turn. That's why the game couldn't continue and was ended.

This is not the intended behaviour but it can of course happen, especially in a game such as Seasons, which has a huge complexity (increased by a number of extensions).

Since then, the system has been made more resilient. Now if there is an error, it shows a message to the player trying to skip the turn of another player, warning him that there is an error preventing the turn skip, and that if he tries to skip again the game will be automatically abandoned. Then it's his choice to wait or skip again and get the game to be abandoned (so yes, unfortunately, a jerk can still be a jerk, but now at least he has to be one on purpose and not by accident).

Might well be ;)
Curious people who read pages linked in the footer can probably make an educated guess, but anyway that's still only half of the story. What counts in the end is the time and energy we have to spare for this website.

First of all, I'm very happy to hear you've already added the warning that will allow the player to decide if he/she wants to be actively be a jerk or calm the heck down and PLAY a game! Wonderful news!

I wish there was a way of somehow getting leave penalties removed when something like this happens, or when you get a thumb from a sore loser who clearly took a temper tantrum when you can see in the log that the person was actively making their moves as I was in this game and he was skipping me just because he didn't want me to transmute about 14-20 energies. There was a bug and he continued to rage skip me and I ended up getting the leave penalty, and since the bug made the game abandoned, I'm sure that fueled him even more to give me the red thumb. However, by looking at that log I can see that he skipped me twice so that I wouldn't get any more moves in the game. Thing is, I'm not even a skilled Seasons player- I play for fun and try my best but it's just not my forte so I am usually pleased with myself if I don't come in last place.

But I DO understand that would be time consuming and the admins have lives like everyone else and are busy adding new games and making improvements when you do have time to devote to the site. There might be a players here though that have the skills, trustworthiness, and would be willing to help out and be a good addition to your awesome team. :) Just a thought.

And as you said, he got two red thumbs added to his name and he doesn't have a good ratio of red to green thumbs while I do. I mostly play with the same people though, so I don't acquire many thumbs on a regular basis compared to the amount of games I've played. And I assume most players are like me and compare thumb ratios and not thumbs/games played ratios.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply and clear things up. You can probably see that I spend a LOT of time on this site and get a lot of enjoyment from it. And it's allowing me to teach my friends irl these games, which is cool. I do take the thumbs and penalties seriously, but only because I play for fun and that fun is ruined when I'm stuck playing with a sore loser or impatient child.

I think the new rule is good, but there's still some place for improvements:

I'm playing a turn based Jaipur game with a new player, who will be probably never online again.
I play this boring table since more than 30 days and also I try to bring it to an end as fast as possible, I'm only at 18% progression yet!
I have to wait a whole day or more to skip his turn, than I can do mine and than I have to wait a whole day again.
That's so boring and dump that I'll be glad when this desaster is finally finished (in half a year or so).

I think it's a major improvement when a player looses 3-5 chances to reenter the game, that he is completely skipped and the remaining players can finish the game without even more waiting time.

Hi, I just recently joined BGA and this system is already causing me problems.

In more than one game I've been in, every other player in the game (usually just 1 other player) has run out of time and been expelled from the game, leaving me alone, to play the game by myself. I don't want to play a game by myself, so I quit the game. The problem is, I'm penalized for quitting the game. So now it's telling me I can't join a game because I "quit games 10% of the time" or something. I shouldn't be penalized for quitting a game where I'm the only one left.

I'm confused. I was playing a three player game of Stone Age. One player lost his connection very early in the game, timed out and his turns got skipped. Finishing that game makes no sense. In that situation my other opponent got "first pick" two times out of three, and the rules for Stone Age are very different for two and three player.

IIRC there was a message that I will not lose points for this game, if I concede. But I couldn't concede, so I quit. Was that wrong? Is there any other option besides conceding and quiting?

Now I lost points and got *three* penalities for quiting this one game. Is that normal? It was the game: Stone Age #12919496.

The three penalities make it hard for me to join games.

Stone Age does this, yes, although it has nothing to do with the new "improvement" they made that this thread is about. It's always done that. And no it doesn't make any sense.

You can't concede a multi-player game. However, on a two player, you should lose ELO points for conceding because you're "agreeing to lose" so to speak. But you should not have quit, no. That gets you a leave penalty.

What you need to do is offer a group abandon. Everyone agreeing to abandon doesn't give anyone penalties.

No that doesn't sound normal. Are you sure all 3 came from this one game? You can only get two penalties off one game: one for leaving and one for being over-time. (You haven't mentioned being over time.) You could also get a red thumb, which is kind of like getting another penalty. But 3 quit penalties?
