I mean this is pretty much the case for all games. I do much better in real time because you actually see your opponents turns as opposed to just it being your turn and not bothering to look over what they did.

Thank you - I've just started doing turn based, & mainly liking it. I was not aware of this feature, & will find this very useful

You don’t need all that. Just contemplate your following move and write it down. This game isn’t poker, it’s not that deep. Mostly memorization with some slight adjustments.
TM is far far far more complexed than poker. I calculate sometimes 10+ moves ahead across generations.

Turn based is different bc I get to calculate more and more importantly take back my blunders if time allows. Hence far higher winning percentage.
10 + moves huh? I’m not sure that’s possible considering the game works off of card distribution. You can plan a few gens ahead, sure, but the game is quite dynamic and sometimes when you’re dealt X card in the draft your entire strategy changes.

Turn based is more relaxed. You get more time to contemplate each and every move AND, most importantly, you’re almost always paired against lower elo opponents vs. real-time. I like to call turn based games free elo for that reason.

In Arena for example, at the start of the season you will be paired against similar MMR league opponents, but their elo will be much lower (usually). When you win those 30-50 early season games you get a ton of arena points, but you also get a lot of “free” elo.

Arena is great for trying new formats, but it doesn’t matter more than overall elo. It’s just a noob bashing grindfest until you reach the top 20 or so, and then the real game begins.

According to you, general elos rather than a structured competition with a deadline is a more meaningful competition. You play for airs when fighting for elo, which also decays overtime. That's far different than gaining a good ranking in an arena season.

That was announced, but never implemented, as far as I know.

It has been implemented since the 13th, taking effect at the end of an arena season. Which shows how important an arena season is guys, it's a red moon.

→ ELO Decay
In the past, some of the strongest players refrained from playing as they could lose ELO, attempting to prevent losing their hard obtained current rank. This lead to situations where players kept their rank without playing anymore. We clearly want to encourage you to play to keep your rank. This will also help other players to be able to compete against the best.
Doing so, a regular ELO decay is introduced to slowly drop the ELO from top ranked players that do not play anymore. The decay will be -10% at the end of the Arena Season for all Strong players and above that did not play any ranked game, but this could be adjusted later (both scope and frequency). The decay will not move player from a rank lower than Strong.

That's what I meant with "announced". Note that's December 2023, not this year. It also says in the FAQ (https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=faq_account_elo):
"When your rank is "Strong" or higher, and you don't play for an extended period, your ELO score will decrease over time."

However, my last game of Egocentric World was in April 2022. I lost and went from 365 to 350 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=261836857
According to my profile, my current elo for Egocentric World is 350. I don't see any decay happening. And "Strong" means 300-499, so it should. Perhaps it only applies to games played after the announcement.

Yeah you are only 350, that's why. It wouldn't affect you until you hit the expert level which I think it's 500 or 600 elo, master is 700+.

I am "Strong or higher", so it should affect me. I am 662 in Quantik, and haven't played since 2022 either. Do you have any example of actual elo decay?
