Because you mentioned it in your OP, Newton rendered poorly on an iPad. I can’t imagine it’s better on a phone. It’s put me off playing again simply because of the poor interface that jumped and resized each time I scrolled up and down between the different game boards. One of my poorest experiences on BGA (and I play backgammmon here!).
Azul plays ok on a phone.
I guess it comes down to, if it’s a game you know well, for layout, icons, positioning, and reading the game situation, then even though a game is on a small phone screen you’ll be ok. I can play Lost Ruins of Arnak acceptably on a phone but that’s because I play a lot in real life and am totally familiar with it. But the Arnak board is so ‘busy’ I wouldn’t recommend someone new to it trying it on a phone as a first experience.
