we discovered that some players were incorrectly staying connected from our perspective and were not receiving the email notification for turn-based games. This was fixed a few hours ago.

You sure about that fix? I'm still missing email notifications today. The newsfeed is currently disabled too, if it makes any difference.

Thanks for this announcement. Those of us who are being reasonable don't expect perfection, but do appreciate efforts to engage with the user base. The lack of communication--for example, silence in the face of overwhelming and unprecedented feedback on a certain issue--often creates as many bad feelings as the site issues themselves. I'm hoping this is evidence of a change in philosophy about user engagement.

I went to find out about this, as a new user, but the only information the outage message links to is this thread from a year ago describing it as “a few days - no more.” I think it’s been more than a few days

To prevent any server shortages, the newsfeed on the homepage is automatically disabled when too many people are connected at the same time. I can confirm this occurred during the past few evenings.
Perhaps the threshold should be reviewed to align with the latest server improvements.
