Played this a few times since launch and I got to say, I really like it. I like that there's a bunch of different options for how to place your people to get points. It's fun racing to get the most followers and guildhalls. I've discovered however, that those things don't really matter. As money is worth 1 point each, it is really the only thing that matters. I played someone a little while back who almost got to 200 points and I think it was less than 40 that came from guildhall/followers/development; he had like 150 coin. I've since tried that strategy and found that yes, all you need to do is go for money, squeezing in other stuff as you can.
It just really seems to go against the spirt of the game. The object, in my mind at least, is to race to get the most followers and guildhalls while also trying to increase your multiplier on the development track. I really think money should take a secondary role, perhaps at a 3 to 1 money to point ratio like in 7 Wonders.
Obviously the game isn't going to change just 'cause I don't like something about it, but perhaps that could be an option players can enable if they wish (sort of like the option to get rid of the over-powered birds in Wingspan). Anyone else agree?
