Undoing part of your turn

Post by starman3000 »

Just had my first game. Is there a way to undo just part of your turn?

If you do your main action and then move rats as a bonus action and they end up moving to wrong spot, then hitting undo takes you right back to the start of your entire go.

Hi, there is now a "Save Game" button, it acts like a checkpoint. When you are sure you're happy with the first part of your turn, save and proceed: the undo button will then only return back to the save point.

I'm not sure if you are the game designer, but the "Save game" button does not read that it acts like a checkpoint. It is not something I've ever seen in any other game, so it might be hard to get across in a button size way, but "Save turn progress" would be more accurate. Me and my friends have all been complaining about the "undo" button, but none of us ever thought to use the save game button, because we assumed it had something to do with saving the game and coming back at a later time to play.

Actually the "Undo" button is also named wrong. In every other game on BGA I've played, the "undo" button only goes back 1 step. I have clicked it several times meaning to go back one step, but then it restarts the whole turn. It really should say "restart turn", which I have seen in several other games.

If we can fix some of these small, quality of life pieces, the game will become more accessible to a wider audience and more people will make it through their first game without getting confused, meaning more players for this great game!

Also, the past tense of "Dig" in modern English is "Dug" not "Digged". Digged is *technically* an archaic word that means the same thing, but every native English speaker will notice that the proper modern term is not used, especially since it comes up many times in the course of a game. I'll check in with the translation section of BGA to see if I can get it changed there. But it drives me crazy

I am the game developer and the designer of the BGA experience, yes. The button only says "Save game" because it would be too long otherwise, but the tooltip specifies the behavior in detail. Same thing with the Undo button (and it can't say "restart turn" because it won't always do so: if you draw a card or press the save button, it will only go back that far, so changing the text would make it more confusing, not less, wouldn't it?)

Anyway, I'm not a native speaker myself, so I appreciate this kind of feedback. The game was designed with English in mind first, but I won't get everything perfectly right. As for "Digged" I absolutely agree that it should say "dug" but..it does already? I checked the translation center and I can't find "digged" in any string https://boardgamearena.com/translation? ... ind=digged - if you can tell me where you found the incorrect string I will change it directly in the code (the original text for the translation center is directly in english - any other language is community translated).

Might be a bug...not sure, but I was 2 moves into exploring with 3 available and tried putting a tent down before leaving the room with my 3rd movement. It was basically treating the tent as a movement whenever I tried. So could either place the tent or leave the room but wouldn't let me do both. Tents are a free move right?

Placing a tent interrupts and ends an exploring action immediately. It's part of the rules, and is in place to keep someone from running away with the game. Without it, cascading-synergistic actions can break the game (which I could have done a multitude of times if it weren't in place).
