Most games I've played, players will even sell card, sell card. I've never seen someone do 1 action only every / most turns. Royalrook made a similar post https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36090 a few months back with a lot of discussion.
I think Frank’s reply which sounds offended that I would even ask the question because it’s not tactically optimised gives me the answer to my original question.

I made the original post because I played arena twice yesterday, the first game I was ahead but got distracted by my wife for a minute and the guy kicked me out at -21 seconds without a word. The second I played against an elite elo player who skipped every second go the entire game and got offended when I said I’d rather lose than play like that.

I think if that (and Frank) are representative of the TM community I’ll find another game 😁
PLOT TWIST:

You played 5 games of Terraforming Mars yesterday.

In all 5 games. YOU used more timer per action that your opponent; in some cases, you used significantly more time.

I find this a bit ironic considering you seem to feel as though you are being victimized by players playing too slowly and causing games to drag.

And, by your own admission, in one game, you didn't focus on the game, causing your clock to go more than 20 seconds into the negative. So, in actuality, you are the player using more clock than your opponent, and then you went 21 seconds into the negative. I would not have booted you from the game, but your opponent had every right to do so.

You say he booted you without a word. When you got "distracted" by your wife, did you type anything in the chat? "Hey, my Wife needs my help for a couple minutes, please do not boot me from the game if my clock goes slightly into the negative." ?

I am not "stalking" anyone.

You made claims that sounded suspect, so I looked at your games from yesterday. This is not uncommon. As it turned out, what you were saying was not accurate.

Reviewing other people's games is one of the prominent features on this site. People review other players' games for analysis, self-study, or to offer strategy advice.

The facts stand. In your games, you are the slower player, by far, in some cases, and you ran out of time in a game because you stepped away from the game for something that was not even remotely close to an emergency. As I said, I would not have kicked you from the game, but I do not think it is unreasonable that your opponent did.

You are unhappy that your opponent kicked you without saying anything, but, it doesn't sound as though you said anything either, didn't make an attempt to explain to your opponent that you needed to step aside for 3 minutes and you would be right back.

Shrug.

Anyone is welcome to do whatever they want, but if you single action the entire game I am giving you a thumbs down. I don't got time for that again.

fyi these forums are heavily moderated and they are very sensitive. I suggest avoiding even the most mild banter if you don't want to get punished

I apologize if I am being repetitive here, but,

A player can so a single action while using 0:02 of clock, and another player might do 2 actions but use 2:16 of clock.

Which player is going to cause a longer game?

I've played games in which I did 100+ actions and used 22 total minutes of clock, including thinking time. Let's say maybe half the time I did 1 action and half the time I did 2 actions.

Would anyone say that performing 100+ actions in 22 total minutes is dragging the game and wasting people's time? And if so, would they be happier if I had performed those 100 actions in exactly 50 turns, doing 2 actions every time, but I used 30 minutes of total clock?

Exactly: If a player needs time to think over their 2nd action, then doing 1 action at a time is better for the overall time consumption.

I encourage you go ask that on the steam discord for this game. You wont find a single person who one actions unless it is required (i.e energy consumption). If everyone just rips two actions, the game moves at a faster pace. If you one action and I one action back, and we repeat, the tempo is unchanged from if we had just two actioned. You only gain something by taking one action if your opponent is taking two. People have their own play styles and don’t like being “told” what to do, so of course this argument always comes up. Ultimately, just do what you want. But the “standard” way among people who play this game a lot is to primarily take two actions to keep the game pace up. So yes, if you are one actioning every move I am also giving you a thumbs down. I saw that above and agree 100%, but the BGA community is like that with TfM so it’s bound to happen.

Well. I consider it a form of bullying to tell people, "This is how some of us have decided to play, and if you do not do it, you get a red thumb and we will unofficially blacklist you from our special elite group."

I think this is not cool. I'm not reporting it or anything, obviously. People can give a red thumb for any reason.

But there are so many legitimate reasons to single action. If I expect to get sabotaged or Raided, why would I double action when I then won't have had any reason to play those cards yet this generation?

If I am concerned about a milestone, why double action if I might not end up needing to play a crummy building tag to safeguard Builder?

In the final gen, why would I double action If I am not sure whether it will actually be the final gen?

If there is a TR track bonus at stake, why would I double action?

If I need my opponent's greenery to happen so I can play a card, why would I double action?

Etc.

And if my total time used is still within acceptable range, why does any of this matter?
