By defaulting to avoiding the matchup, or if not able to, then declaring it a tie. There's no reason to force people to play together.

Possibly workable if you have just one person you've red thumbed in a tournament with you. But what if you've red thumbed half the players?

blockmonoid wrote: 07 June 2025, 19:52 Thanks for the info! I was noticing that starting a day or two ago, I got 1 XP when a tournament finished, even if it had a small number of players. And just today, I got 12 XP and an achievement for being in the "top division" in a tournament, which I guess means top half of players, but that seems very generous considering that anyone who made it past round 1 got that achievement.
I was knocked out in the first round of a tournament and received a "Top Division" award. So you can get it for just finishing the tournament.
Although I think this is mainly to incentivize players not to drop out of Swiss tournaments after one or two early loses, it's nice that you get it for single-elimination as well.
I was pleasantly surprised by the extra trophy handouts. Just in time for my annual Decks out for Harambe tournaments to end. https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=384337 this one ended recently and passed out so many trophies :)

I was trying to win a Harambe trophy so bad, but I got knocked out early so I was a bit sad, but then the tournament ended fast and I got a participation trophy! It's like BGA devs knew I wanted a trophy. Lucky timing.

The FAQ should probably be updated - it is from 10 years ago, and doesn't even mention round robin.

I would also like some information about how tie-breakers work in tournament ranking (swiss and round robin.)

There really ought to be, but apparently there are none.

Hi everyone. In some turn-based tournaments, I find myself playing all my games at the same time. Since I don't like these tournaments, I'd like to know how to avoid them. Thanks.

This happens in round robin tournaments. Avoid those.
