Sometimes you get unlucky. I lose to worse players occasionally, it sucks but it means they got a dream draw. Focus on yourself, over time you will zoom past those lucky guys.

Skimming quickly I saw you played lunar beam gen 7, yea don't do that.

Also, avoid all advice from people with 0 TM games on BGA.

Why not? I have good use of that 2 energy and earth tag. Lunar beam C tier card.

i feel if youre this invested in outcome variance you need a different hobby. unlikelystuff happens in every game with random outcomes and more often than you think. while each case is highly unlikely there is a large amount of unlikely cases.

Here's an interesting one:
Game settings that I find more fun. Colonies, and the larger map with higher Global parameter requirements to end the game. And, both players got a fun and strong corporation:

https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=690021003

Pluto was not in play, and I could not get any card draws. I managed 13 random card draws from map placement, Lagrange, Tech demo, and one or two other sources, but no blue action card draws. (I played restricted area very late, but I had already planned out my final moves by then, and those card draws were not relevant.)

This game was an example of the card-starved player managing a TR rush (of sorts; it's not easy to TR rush that map) while holding no playable cards much of the time, against an opponent drawing 4+ cards per generation.

I did TEN SP greeneries, marching them along the oceans, and passed with a huge lead, hoping it was enough. It was, but I was still nervous, because of the opponent's engine. I think he scored 40 points after I passed.

Tactics? Luck? Who knows? We both got some fun cards. We've played this map on friendly mode several times with colonies and this might have been my first win; I'm not sure. I don't enjoy rushed games that end in 8 or 9 generations.

So, high-level competitive play almost certainly isn't for me. Based on the opinions in this thread, I doubt Colonies will be included in the next arena season, so I likely won't have any interest in the next arena season.

I’m happy to play Colonies with you on friendly mode. Don’t think adding the bigger map with longer parameters is necessary in a format that’s already quite degen.

I would like to play a friendly game with you, both a regular game and with colonies, but I like colonies less.

Yes, it was very fun game with nuts card draw which was very hard to handle on the phone screen, so poor play from my side. On the other hand, great job on Frank's side - even with 60 points lead he didn't just chill but SPed greeneries as quickly as possible to have the game done. Almost let me believe he will not be able to do the last one with his money and me having all Plantation, Mangrove, Protected Valey and Strip Mine in hand. But yes, he had Media Archives so managed to finish just on time. After that I finally sit to PC and scored around 40 points, finishing with around 20 points difference, selling many other point cards. One more gen and the result might be different cause we didn't even fund any award (both close on all of them and after he passed I totally forgot about them cause it didn't matter anymore anyway).
So it is a good example for OP that even if the opponenent draws all the cards in the word, if they don't play optimally, you can still win with the right tactique.

I looked over dessp’s game. It was certainly winnable. The point Luna player wasn’t extraordinarily lucky from my standpoint. In fact dessp was the one with Mars U, olympus conference, restricted area, and lots of other fairly strong cards that were never played until generations 9 and 10 when it is too late.

Mars Expert’s tier list can only help you to an extent. Just because a card is “high tier” doesn’t mean you should buy it. You spent generations 3-7 buying “good” cards but are always too poor to play them. What use is a card if you never play it to get its benefits? And also production cards such as fuel factory and asteroid mining consortium are a complete waste of money to play beyond gen 5 unless you know for sure the game is going very long. They certainly should not be played in gen 7.

Hola todos. Sorry for my English, but I am so disappointed in this game after this match. I think this game based on a luck a lot. And when it is happening in tournament game which decides will you pass to next round or not, it is double awful.

I am playing this game 1.5months. And here my opponent is (as far as i know one of the steam top players of 2018 year). But, that is OK, It is even fine if I loose to him, but not in a way that this games passed.

First of all look at this starting hand, which is pure luck, no player chooses that: point luna (best corp in the game with preludes), with two top tier preludes. Earth catapult and anti gravity in one persons hand? yeah, why not giv him also research outpost? Large convoy, Ice asteroid, iventors guild ad shuttles (I dont know why he didnt kept shuttles tho)

Gen 3:
I'm a beginner at terraforming mars. Could you help me out by answering some questions?

Gen 1, comet is your only titanium sink and you have 2 titanium prod and you play space elevator and titanium mine to get 4 titanium prod. Why?

First draft you take 3 cards, including miranda when you have 1 earth tag and 0 jovs. Why? Your other two keeps are nitro moss and trees when you have 3 other plant tags in hand including algae and no one is pushing heat. Why?

Second draft you take 4 cards including nuclear power when you already had lunar beam. Why?

Third draft you buy 4 cards when you have mars U and business network down and are taking restricted. Why? You have a lot of card draw and no economy other than the +3 from space elevator and titanium and you buy 0 cards that use titanium including drafting land claim and small animals. At this point you have 6 plant tags in hand, a microbe tag that works as a plant prod, and 2 animals cards. You then pay 3 to buy protected valley from business network to get another card you can't afford to play. Why? When you put down restricted area you put it on a card draw spot instead of setting up for ocean cash back. Why?

Increasing to 4 titanium production is fine. It's still only enough to pay for 4/7 of comet, and there will be more space cards to come. Also, space elevator increases the value of the steel from 2 to 5.

Gen 2: I am buying only trees. Three is not enough money to be buying 3 cards.

Gen 3: I am not buying Nuclear power. I am discarding Extreme Cold Fungus when playing Mars Uni. As played, I would have played Lunar Beam then Miranda resort.

Gen 4: I am not buying small animals or land claim. Too many cards. Natural preserve and restricted area are fine. Restricted area should go on the steel spot next to the ocean. 4 dollars worth of stuff is better than one plant. No Reason to play Ecozone yet. Lunar Beam + Miranda should still be taking priority.

Gen 5: I am not buying adaptation technology.

Gen 6: I am buying only one card. Either AMC or asteroid. too many cards are played before doing card draws.

Gen 7: Same thing. Card draws first. And hired raiders before opponent spends all his money. Ocean - I am taking plant and money rather than the titanium. Playing Fuel factory is questionable.

Gen 8 should probably be buy zero. For the greenery I am taking the card not the 2 MC. Olympus Conference's time has passed. And this delays Io Mining. Actually hired raiders could have been used to play Io Mining rather than small animals.

Gen 9. No reason to buy standard tech. Mangrove might have been better than Quantum extractor. Too much delay of restricted area, media group, hired raiders. Io Mining is a better play than Asteroid Mining.
