I also think I've heard that the timings for real-time speeds are based on average turn times or something? So that's an issue for a game like Ark Nova (or Space Base), where early turns can have you making one-click actions, but later turns can have you doing combos where you have to basically do a double or even triple turn.

That said, all games have a buffer of time that's supposed to cover this kind of thing. Turn speed is set as x amount per turn up to a maximum, and everyone starts with that maximum. So for that game of Space Base you got +0:18 per turn, with a maximum of 1:54. That's enough for 6 additional turns throughout the game. In some cases that won't be enough, but if that's the case for you, maybe the fast turn speed isn't for you.

If you recall where you heard how they come up with time per turn let me know. Because several games I’m clueless about how the times per turn are determined.

If you go to "Play Now", set the drop down menus to "Simple Game", "Real Time" and "Manual" and than open a table for the game, it will show you, what time gets added each turn and what the max. time bank is for every game speed, once you select that speed.

If you consider the context of the question ("how they come up with time per turn"), they are asking how the slow, normal, and fast total time and increment get decided, not where to find them.

Can you clarify this please? I cannot find this "manual" nor any time per turn / bank max.

When you go to the Play Now page, does it look like this at the top: https://imgur.com/a/WB9eIEq?

If not, those three columns are actually options. Change each option until it looks like that screenshot. The rightmost option is where you set it to Manual.

Once you've done that, click on a button beneath a game to create a new table (either the button will say "Play now" or there will be a number next to a table icon indicating that other people have already created tables that are waiting for players). At the end of the row that opens at the top that says "create new table" there will be a button that says "create." Click that.

Here you can specify every single aspect of a game that they let you configure (speed, variants, etc.). One of those options is game speed. For each setting, it will tell you what the increment per turn is, i.e., how much time gets added back to your clock at the beginning of every turn, and what the maximum time on your clock can be. To see all the options, just click the little down arrow on the side of the currently selected option.
